When Erathia's King Gryphonheart is murdered by traitors he is resurrected as an undead warlord who leads a ruthless invasion of his former Kingdom. Meanwhile the Necromancers raise large hordes of undead and advance towards the Erathian capitol. There are games and there is Heroes 3.
I mean, have you ever tried to play it? If yes, you don't need to read that. If not - what are you waiting for? With random maps this game is probably endless. Never get bored. I can only tell that with HD mod from fans (google it) it is pretty much playable better than in early 2000. Many different castles, artifacts and of course heroes. Capaigns - perfect, even the Armageddons blade. Come on, what are you waiting for!? BUY, PLAY, thank me later.

It only get better with time
There are few games which get better with time. I have been playing HOMM3 for more than 20 years, not every day, but it was installed in all my computers and at least once at year I play a custom map. One of the secrets, besides a rich mythology and its special attention to the detail, is a loyal community who keep it updated with an insane variety of mods. At least there are two mods that I consider mandatory: the HD for high resolution widescreen, and the last HERA as a mod manager to install easy a wide variety of them.

One of the greatest games ever made!
I spent a lot of time playing this when it was new. When I saw it pop up in my GOG feed I had to buy it and have enjoyed playing it as much now as I did then. This really aged well and not in a "let's fix it with mods" kind of way. It's just a timeless classic that you can pick up and play casually lettigng the AI deal with the combat (which it does well most of the time) or delve into the strategy of he whole world and engage in some pretty epic battles with magic and creatures of all types. If you're one the fence about it. Do it. If you like great games of any type, not just turn-based RPGs you'll love this. Oh and in case it's not clear: I LOVE THIS GAME

Best game of all time
Probably have at least 5000 hours played over 20 years, from Win 95 until now. Played all series but 3rd one is still no doubts the best one. have all expansions original discs, but sometimes it's useful to have digital copy as well. Time to do another lan party of HoMM3!
