In the world of the Heretic Kingdoms, a world where God is dead and religion heresy, you are cast as a young female inquisitor, working to stamp out the last remnants of religion. On instructions to destroy a relic which the Inquisition considers to be a significant threat, you are drawn into a war between two warring secret societies – a conspiracy of mages whose goal is true power, and a shadowy cult who seeks to resurrect the Dead God.
As the story progresses, you will be placed in an amoral world and left to decide your own morality. Just like the real world, your actions have consequences, and it is up to you to decide if you can live with them or not. Play as an altruistic heroine, a vicious and selfish egotist, or just a woman trying to get her job done – your actions will lead you to one of six different endings depending on where you decide your loyalties lie. Will you crush religion underfoot, or become its savior? Only you can decide!
An engaging story line written by a script team lead by critically acclaimed game writer and designer Chris Bateman (Discworld Noir, Ghost Master)!
Features a simple but rewarding combat system that keeps the action flowing thick and fast.
A vast world to explore containing around fifty locations, scores of unique monsters, and tons of loot!

The engine, UI and combat are nothing to write home about. That much is true. Even the story isn't as well written as the 5 star reviews might indicate. But I really enjoyed the witty, tongue-in-cheek dialogue. Sometimes, when playing with the expectation of the reader, it even reminded me of Joss Whedon's style. Sadly, that's very, very rare (and equally precious).
Positive points:
- Interesting story;
- The graphics of the scenarios are quite pleasant;
- For those from Brazil, the GOG version has a complete translation into PT-BR (just make sure to select it in the external configurator).
Negative points:
- The combat is not satisfactory, there isn't that brutal sound and that most brutal death animation, it feels like you're hitting enemies with a cardboard sword (by playing you will understand);
- For some reason the GOG offline installer took almost 1 hour to install the game, and it also took a while to uninstall (maybe this is a irrelevant for most people);
- There is a bug with the character's statistics, instead of numbers appearing, letters appear, making everything difficult to understand (this was mentioned in other reviews);
- The screen aspect ratio is stuck at 4:3 and the available resolution for most will be 1024x768.
Well, I could list more negative points, but I just focused on the main ones, the ones you will see at the beginning. Despite my 1 star rating, I encourage you to play and draw your own conclusions. ;)
When trying this for the first time, it seemed to have a bit of trouble understanding exactly where my mouse was on the screen - for example, when i tried to add points to my melee skill with the +/- buttons, it added points a couple of times then suddenly started changing the difficulty instead.
I gave it a couple more tries, with different compatibility options** and also tried it in windowed mode (i would have hated playing in that tiny little window, so I'm kinda glad it still didn't work) - but the problem persisted, and by this time i no longer trusted the game enough to go any further.
Controls should be direct and consistent, and these were not. Some people have had a good experience with this game, but I am not one of them unfortunately.
Just in case the issue is system or hardware related, I was running it with:
Win 7 64 bit
Radeon RX 590 8gb @ 1920x1080
Asus X79 motherboard
i7 4820K cpu
16gb ram
MS Comfort mouse
** to do this I had to clone the .exe - the original .exe wouldn't let me change compatibility settings, apart from 'run as administrator'
Original Publisher is called Project Three
Game was made by 3D people
i still have ancient original CD with the game in foreign language
most likely in my parents old house in attic xD
Games farm just swep in with money and corporate acquisition to sell you your nostalgia
its funny how all their actual games can't even come close to Artistic or fun
if you take a look at Steam Page, it looks like games farm became not just publisher, but also developer, damn time machines and video games?
Game is pretty solid ARPG, good for fans of classic games and one of few Female protagonist games that was enjoyable for me
you know why they gave away their Sequel instead of this one? because this is actually worth buying xD
