Her Story

A little bit short, but still very enjoyable. I really like the not so clear ending.

I found playing this to be enjoyable, although as others have said, it's not "fun" per se. I definitely recommend it if you're into visual novels or just artsy games that are more about story than gameplay (e.g. Emily is Away, Firewatch, The Beginner's Guide). Do note that it's very short, it only took me about an hour and a half to figure out exactly what happened.

'Her Story' is, in the matter of presentation and gameplay, a really unique piece of art in the big world of video games (pun intended). Some may say -with good reason- it's not a 'game' in the classic way. You listen to a fragmented story with very few hints in the beginnng and try to find the big context in it. I was quite intrigued on from the beginnng, thinking and puzzling over the single pieces of information. But you only need to discover one particular video, and you know why 80% happenend. Most people may say here: 'good, I solved the puzzle, let's go home'. But in my case, the game started to get really interesting for me: I tried to figure out the last little details, rewatched videos multiple times, hoping to find the key word I need to search for. Possible spoiler ahead: And here's the one big flaw of this game: I don't think it's possible to discover every single video in the first playthrough since the search terms in rare cases cannot be detected. So you end up retrying different combinations and search terms until you have no fun anymore. (No worries, you can access all videos in the free game afterwards). And that's a great pity considering that finding the little details is actually fun and I think one of the key parts of the game (take a look at the paragraph above). But, overall I would recommend playing it if you're a fan of story-driven games and trying out a new form of gameplay is always good ;)

kind of game. I finished the game about half an hour ago. Considering a few reviews stating, it doesn't have a "real" ending, I bought it (full price) knowing I might not like what I get. But I actually like it. A lot. Well, there is no "this is what happened"-cutscene/newspaper snippet or anything (that I saw). But there are a few videos, which the game lets you know (using police sirens) are important bits after you saw them. So although I probably didn't see all videos, even though I typed up a lot of things that I thought might give me more story, I know at least enough "important" facts and enough background story to be content about logging out of the database. If acting/script is important to you, you probably would substract a star for some "hiccups"(?), but I care more about the story itself, which I like a lot. (So I will most likely get the "next installment" (Telling lies).) If you want to try something different Her Story might be for you. Just be aware, that you are not trying to lock someone up for something. Those files are very old already, when you get to sift through them.

Interesting game with unique gameplay. Despite some shortcommings totally worth its price. + Interesting idea + Unique gameplay + Does not bore + Pretty good actress + Well written monologues + Game does not guide you. You are on your own - No replayability potential - You just sit and watch videos. You don't have to even analyze them that much. You just need to find proper keywords - No goal whatsoever. If you'd watched enough videos, you can just log off. Bye bye. Time to beat: 2hrs (3hrs if you want to find and watch all of the videos. Even those that have nothing in common with the case.)
