Haven Park

This was an instant hit with the family. It's adorable, relaxing, and easy for the kids to pick up and use, We play it together on the living room TV and I love it. I really think there's credit due any time a game developer goes for a look/aesthetic and achieves it. And in this case I think they did.

Playtime: 102 minutes (71% completed... or something) **Review** Haven Park is a game about finding resources, trying to find your way around, backtracking a lot, repairing broken objects and building the exact same handful of things in each campsite. Outside of campsites you can only repair streetlamps and fences, you don't get to place your own. Campsites are small areas where you build the exact same campfire, bench, vendor and tents each time. There are a few other things to build, but half of them are locked behind a skill that requires two level ups early on - when you want faster movement and more resources instead. Aside from the dull building element there's almost nothing to this game. A couple of lines of dialogue at best (not voiced, of course). There isn't even any half-decent music. What are you supposed to get from this? I've literally seen more creative asset flips.

I wish I could get back the almost three hours I spent playing this game. It feels like just a prototype, an incomplete project. It has potential, for sure, but it could have used more development. The lack of a map makes the game, which is focused on exploring, a bit of a struggle. I kept getting lost and wandering around trying to find my way. The assets are repetitive and uninspired. The camera angles are poor, sometimes hiding my character behind a mountain. The story is almost non-existent and there are things that don't make sense. I know this is an indie game and I hate to be so critical, but I've played many indie games that are truly masterpieces.
