Seriously this game is really addictive. I end up playing it for hours I really never get tired of it. Hammerwatch brings back the combat and feel of the old Gauntlet games which I found executed beautifully. The Multiplayer/Co-op is amazing while playing with friends (up to 4) and truly a very nice game.
Very nice Gauntlet-style game with lovely graphics, gentle difficulty when starting and nice riddles. Lots of fun for days.
My only backdraw: it doesn't run on OS X Sierra, even with the hint from the official support forum (http://hammerwatch.com/forum/index.php?topic=2347.0). Couldn't manage to start the game at all. So a fix for this would be awesome.
Weighing in at a spritely 183MB, Hammerwatch is a diablo-style ARPG where you move through levels killing monsters, breaking stuff, and collecting gobs of loot. The money can be used to upgrade your character's defenses, replenish a used potion, or increase your damage. Shoot the right spot and the wall will break away revealing secrets that usually point to even better loot like extra lives or tokens that will reduce the cost when dealing with vendors. A choice of multiple characters, each with their strengths and weaknesses, along with multiple difficulty levels makes it easy to start another game.
The levels are huge and one of my gripes is it's easy to get lost. Clicking switches opens secret passages that are not always seen and can be difficult to find. The map is another lackluster feature. In spite of taking the entire screen, it does not show everywhere you have traveled or need to travel. It becomes a matter of walking around aimlessly until you find the next place you need to go and this becomes aggravating.
Aside from these issues, I easily recommend this game for anyone who enjoys this genre. Some consider these types of games repetitive, but I enjoy the sense of progression from weakling to badass.
