FREE TO PLAY THAT’S WORTH YOUR TIME
A fair and fun progression system turns the effort of building a competitive collection of cards into pure pleasure — simply collect new cards to build decks with as you play GWENT; no strings attached.
STUNNING, ALL ACROSS THE BOARD
Beautiful, hand-drawn art and mesmerizing visual effects breathe life into every card, battle and battlefield, making GWENT fun to play and every duel a joy to watch.
SKILL BEATS LUCK
Crush the enemy with brute strength or outsmart them with clever tricks — no matter your deck, GWENT’s unique round-based gameplay opens up a world of strategic possibilities to play with when fighting for victory.
MORE THAN ONE WAY TO PLAY
Whether it’s a quick online game against a friend, a highly competitive PvP challenge, or something new and wildly adventurous like the Arena, GWENT’s selection of game modes has got you covered.
EASILY SATISFYING, ANYTHING BUT EASY
Sling cards from your deck across two tactically distinct rows — melee and ranged. Gather more points in the duel against your opponent to win a round. Win two out of three rounds to win the battle. It won’t be easy, but no one said it should be.
NO HOLDING BACK, NO HOLDING HANDS
You start with 10 cards from your deck in hand, able to play each card right from the start. It’s up to you to open the game with your strongest unit, or save the best for later in the fight. How will your deck look and what will your strategy be?
The game requires an online connection to play and offers optional in-game purchases.
After the mulligan changes (patched on January 10, 2019) the game once again feels and plays great. Definitely recommended, one of the best card games on the market with the most f2p friendly business model.
First I have to say a few things..
I'm absolutely loving the new Gwent especially after the Patch realeased today which changed the Mulligan-System. I was a Closed Beta tester in 2016 so I know almost every state of the game with many changes it gone through until today.
Sure the ''old'' Beta Gwent was fun because with a decent deck you could always play out your full deck. On the same side there was little to no option of free deck building because the cards for a specific archetype were already determined and only allowed you to implement a few neutral cards to make a ''unique deck''
Since the midwinter patch (dec.2017) Gwent had become a point slam card game which very much focused on how to abuse the coinflip (Who goes first) and how to gain an advantage out of it.
This isn't a thing in Gwent today!
+The visuals look much better. Also cards dont look like a tiny stamp anymore
+Coinflip got addressed and is more balanced (49-51 percent according to developers)
+New order ability adds variety to games
+New provision system makes it easier for the developers to balance the game.
+Finally the game has a solid build and can go forward (no heavy changes are expected to the core of the game)
+Deckbuilding is more fun with the new provision system.
+There is a reward book which gives you in-game currencies and where you can unlock skins all for free
All in all Homecoming Gwent feels superior to its predecessor once you get into it and give it a chance. It's also important to say that you can play entirely for free and get every card of the game by simply playing it.
A lot of people complain about their preference for the old, Beta Gwent. They say it was better. Imho, this version is better due to several changes which came with Homecoming:
1. The meta was stale, and every player knew which move to expect in each turn, because of tutors and the specific interactions. Now most of the tutors is gone, which means you'll have to play around your goals more, and manoeuvre your deck better. The meta is pretty versatile, and you can see a lot of deck types, which are not easily recognisable at the first sight.
2. 2 rows instead of 3. This was a huge change, but a good one. More tactical options, and the importance of putting your units to the proper row is a fundamental base of the game now.
3. There was not enough room to improve, to develop, to add new card mechanics. New Gwent provides the opportunity for all of these, and the developers of Gwent made a huge progress in transparency about their future plans. The game took the right direction to stay in the competitive business and to lay the basics for future expansions, while improving the game's existing features.
4. This card game is still the easiest to learn, when compared to other card games, however, it is not easy to master.
5. Generous economy, not P2W.
6. New UI, bigger card pics, more transparency. The game is not a tavern game anymore, but represents a battlefield. I know that this is one of the most heartwrenching issues for the players who played the game since Witcher 3 (like me) but we all know that there is already a tavern-ish card game on the market (and it sucks. :D)
7. Some say that the existence of artifacts is not good. I say that there are easily counterable.
TLDR: Give it a try. Not old Gwent, but a Gwent with better interactions, visuals and opportunities. Great plans for the game from the developers, which makes it worth even for new players to join the community and the game. Besides, this game is still the most generous regarding the resources.
I tried it during the beta but didn't play for very long. After all the changes, (and they changed it a lot!) I'm actually willing to give it another try and so far I'm having fun. They gave it a lot "Witcher world" character. And balance seems to be more tight. On top of that they were generous with scraps to recompensate previous collections.
I don't know I guess that is just my opinion but I like it now.
I've played Gwent since the beta (I've been playing this game for more than a year) and, although it's been criticized since its release from the beta (Gwent: Homecoming), I have to say that this game is not only very good, it improves the aspects of the old Gwent. In addition, it gives many rewards to the players, being the most friendly online card game (by far) with the players that I have ever played. If you add to that it is well balanced, that they listen to their community and that it is set in the world of Geralt de Rivia, you are slow to play this great game.
(Sorry for my English but, in short, if you like card games, you should try it.Highly recommended)
