my oh my...

just wow... Finished the game in two sittings. Visually it's magnificent; I've never taken screenshots in videos games, but I had to... truly feast for the eyes! The game is an artistic experience, a metaphor of an inner journey that I have found very relevant to my inner struggles; I'm sure everybody may relate. It's a very forgiving game (you can't lose) and short too (much less than 10h), plays nicely with the 360 controller and is recommended to gamers, but I've shown it to a few people who aren't into video games and they've been drooling over it too!

The game as art

The game is wonderful designed and you can enjoy and relax trough the whole the game. But unfortunately it doesn't have too much to offer in terms of play and it's a bit boring and long-winded. The music on the other hand, is very well composed.

Elegant platformer

GRIS is a wonderful, peaceful platforming experience. It goes in a direction I wish more platformers would explore: a mostly enemyless journey. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all the classic platformers like Mario and Donkey Kong Country, but why does every game have to be oriented around us vs. them? Enter GRIS, where a large portion of the game involves either neutral NPCs or NPCs that you have to collaborate with to advance. I just loved the puzzles, the elegance of the gameplay, and it's surprising originality. This is not for hardcore gamers; none of the challenges are particularly difficult. It's more about the joy of exploration and discovery. There are a number of cool challenges a long the way, but I mostly came for the gorgeous water color design, the clever abstract world-building, and the excellent soundtrack. If you like puzzlers such as Art of Gravity or Zenge, or platformers like Limbo or Inside, GRIS is a necessary addition to your collection.

Interactive Media as Art

This game is the greatest argument for the artistic value of video games put forth this decade. The game is set around Gris, the female player character who suffers a life shattering event, causing her to lose all colour to her life. You play her going through each of the five stages of grief, set to absolutely stunning watercolour styled visuals and a emotionally moving score. Pros - Visually stunning, beautiful music, simplistic gameplay that is open to all ages, story Cons - Simplistic gampley, only 3-4 hours long (add an hour or two if you're a completionist). This is as close to art as video games will ever get, do yourself a favour and experience it.
