Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride

In Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride, your sister is to be married, but a strange bear is interfering with her wedding plans. You must help her, solve the mystery of the bear, and more. Pros: + Great atmosphere, artwork, and music + Decent animations and story + Good puzzles + Good hinting system + Manipulatable items are highlighted + Your kitten is cute and helpful + Useless items are discarded Cons: - Lack of facial expressions - Inability to access useful objects - Unnecessary domino games The story and animations in the game are alright, but when you combine them with the amazing soundtrack and artwork, the game is quite atmospheric. However, the characters' facial expressions are rather bland and lacking. Regarding game play, the puzzles usually make sense and it is often clear what each item should be used for. When it isn't clear, your cursor changes when an item can be interacted with and clicking on it often provides a useful hint. When all else fails, you can click on the hour glass, which recharges fairly quickly. Also, your kitten will sometimes meow or run into your display window when you should use him. In addition, the game minimizes needless searching because items that are no longer useful are discarded and regions that have no further use cannot be re-visited. However, sometimes you cannot perform trivial tasks, such as lighting a torch when there are numerous candles and fires around. The option to play dominoes instead of a hidden object game is pointless since hints can be used when objects cannot be located. Furthermore, the fact that they're animated and sparkle, initially, made me think that I had to play them.

Hidden tresure is basically a braindead version of the point'n'click adventure games: typically the puzzles are way easier (and half of them is just find items on the screen), there is some really generic story, and no dialogues. They tend to be really short games, and usually targets the mobile game market. Grim Legends is does everything perfectly in the limits of the genre: the puzzles gets gradually more difficult as the story (yes, there is one even if not grandiose) progress, you get a map which provides fast travel AND mardks the locations where you can actually do something, provides an alternative minigame (domino) to the object finding, and has several collectibles (sprites, evasive items, achievements) to prolong the gameplay. I gave it 3 stars because even though it does everything well in the genre, it is still just a hidden treasure game. On Google Play I would immeadiately give it 5 stars, but on PC we have so many better alternatives. Still, if you want an easy puzzle game with ~3 hours of playtime, and the price is not too much for you, its not a bad choice.

The game has this sweet, little Goldilocks feel with puzzles aimed at adolescent Goldilocks. It's kitschy and naïve as the fairy tales we used to like, back in the childhood. I guess it's aimed at kids (except for some frivolous lingerie of sister of main protagonist and dark pictures of the dammed in the second part). Grown-up puzzleman may find some entertainment in it, although not guaranteed. The big pro is detailed environmental puzzles where kids will gain a knowledge of the real world crafts and skills.

Fun and not so slow paced. The story is ok, picturesque setting and not bad dialogues. Puzzles are not that hard, but they will pick your brain. I did not get bored, so give it a try. I will move on the sequels now.

Too many of the mini games in this were not explained well. I spent far longer clicking randomly just trying to find things. Even on 'Casual' mode, it was not trying hard to help me. Moving the cursor painstakingly across the screen line by line in an attempt to find something to click on - or blindly moving pieces in a puzzle because at no point has the goal been expressed. I usually love Artifex Mundi games, but this is not one I'd recommend.
