Mission: Stop the Virus Army’s Uprising!
In a post-apocalyptic world populated by sentient robots, its inhabitants are once more threatened by an old foe, the Virus Army. Defeated decades ago, it has re-emerged from the shadows with a unique goal, complete world domination. Severely weakened Guardian Corps are left with no other choice but to call upon a hero of the previous war: the lone operative, Kai, who harnesses the powers of the mysterious Gravity Circuit. As the world's last line of defense, journey through futuristic environments, and take down the evil mastermind behind this chaos.

Reminiscent of classic platformers from the 80s and 90s, with action dialed to maximum, channel your power into your fists and send foes flying, or grapple them to get up close and personal. In your quest you will acquire many new powers, which will allow you to go even further beyond!

Gravity Circuit (grapple) hooked me after I threw caution to the wind. First playthroughs inherently emphasize caution, which means that truly appreciating the game will take some time. If you're willing to put in the effort, you'll find a game that twists old ideas in a fresh and fun direction.

Nice 2D Action-Platformer

Easiest comparison is probably one of the Mega Man X games where you play as Zero. Game has an intro stage and then lets you tackle the next 8 in any order you want. You don't gain abilities by beating the bosses though. New moves, upgrades, etc. are mostly bought via the shops in the hub area. Upgrades require both cash and hostage rescues, and the latter are hidden throughout the stages. You can also find upgrades in the stages if you look hard enough. Kai is absurdly customizable so once you amass some cash, you should be able to find a set of skills and abilities that suit your playstyle. Overall, the game is just a blast to play and highly recommended if you like this kind of game. If I had to nitpick a flaw, a few stages might go on slightly too long, but even that is at worst minor in the grand scheme so I'm going with 5 stars.

A hidden gem

Half Mega Man Zero, half classic Ninja Gaiden, a grappling hook mechaninc and 8-bit era aesthetics. This game's inspirations are quite clear but the end result it's still a very fun game. Highly recommended.

Underrated Gem

Got this on Steam a while back but want to let it be known this is a great buy. Gravity Circuit really deserves the same level of mass acclaim that Shovel Knight got, which it unfortunately has not gotten. The pixel art is great with smooth and clean animations. The platforming is fluid and precise with speedrunning clearly being something the game was made with in mind. There's a surprising amount of customization with various passive chips and burst technique options (super moves you have to charge up). The soundtrack is great, full of catchy and head-banging chiptunes. I could go on. The most unique point the game has going for it is the grappling hook and grappling system. You have a grappling hook which is used for platforming as well as to reel in objects and defeated enemies. Normally you have to get up close and personal, but by throwing things you can attack enemies from a distance. Larger objects and enemies will generally do more damage, and before you know it you're chaining grabs & throws, defeating each enemy with a well aimed throw of the last one you defeated. Getting a good handle on this mechanic you can get into a great rythym. The burst techniques you charge up by defeating enemies is the cherry on top. Just be aware that this game is pretty damn tough. Even on normal it was a decent challenge, and on Hard it will demand you master the mechanics, are precise with your movements and have quick reactions for the bosses' various moves. Still, for anyone who enjoys platformers this is a must-have.
