Absolute bollocks, Can't even play it decently. Lags a lot, Which is really annoying. Tried everything community patch, fonts fix,INI tweaks still lags.
Broken game i guess.
Yes, it it worse than 1&2. Yes, it has no heart or direction. But 1 out of 5 stars is pushing it to trolling limits.
Fanboys drooling over G1&2 and dissing everything after them (G3, Forsaken Gods, ArcaniA, Risen 1,2,3) by giving them 1 out of 5 stars, is just plain trolling.
From the beautiful vistas, to re-spawning enemies and from playable skills to the weapons and armors, G3 corrects many things G1&2 did wrong at the expense of lore, atmosphere and maybe continuation.
Whereas G1&2 felt empty after you slaughter everything, G3 is a living breathing world.
Whereas G1&2 had a single foresty-germanic environment, G3 has 4 biomes from deserts to snowy mountains.
Whereas G1&2 needs 3 playthroughs to experience the 3 classes (mercenary, fighter, mage), G3 goes to implement all 3 classes so you can multirole.
Completely playable with the Community Patch, runs smoothly at 1080p at max settings and seeing Myrtana for the first time is exhilarating. Open-endness and scale is on par with Two Worlds games, albeit more detailed.
Gothic 3 is one of the worst games I've ever played. It's also a prime example what can happen with an experienced team, great vision, good ideas, but tight deadlines, mismatched scale, and downright pushing the schedule to release the game earlier then previously planned. The end result is a painful cadaver cobbled together on a table that never had a chance to draw the first breath. It's always hard to play through Gothic 3 due to glimpses of greatness of what this game could be if it was actually finished, instead of delivering undercooked or placeholder systems and unplayable (basically nonexistent) gameplay.
Combat doesn't work, at all, patches and overhauls, messing with balance sheets and AI reactions only make things worse. The world is in 2/3 basically a block-out. Narrative is a jagged mess, failing to provide any new quality material, and disregarding established stories and lore, changing things that didn't need to be changed in the first place. While Myrtana is somehow filled with semi-developed content (still bad and unfinished), Nordmar and Varant are criminally empty, inconsequential, and disattached from each other. The game doesn't even have any Main Quest - at all. The main quests that there are, are fetch quests and unclimactic "kill X" and are highly unsatisfying. Stories and themes from previous games do not carry on, almost none are concluded or recalled upon, and these which are - are used in a shockingly erratic manner. Eg. Lee's story has nothing to do with what was told us in previous games. Orcs are comically retconned and don't make sense. Encounters with dramatis personae are abrupt, brief and inconsequential. The Player lacks any agenda.
Rest of the systems are unfinished and placeholder. The itemization is awful and based on a boring chest grind, which is also randomized.
Worst of all, the game is just not fun. At all.
Almost two decades after its release, it still amazing to see how awful Gothic 3 turned out to be.
