a mixed bag...

Clearly has it's upsides, but also many downsides. Like the models of enemies... the molerat for example is, IMHO, simply awesome! A clever redesign that captures the original intend while adding meaningful enhancements. Nice, that's how it's done! Then again there is stuff like the new scavenger. that simply butchers the original design without thought, remodelling the ratite/emu like design simply into a lizardlike snapper clone. Similar for the new bloodfly, that has no insect-mandibles anymore, or skeleton mage design and others. A real pity. Repeats with world design, that now looks more like the Pyrenees, drastically changing the atmosphere. Not to mention the crazy Alps like mountains in the background... WTH?! *big thumbs down* And not sure what happened with the dialogues... they range from improper to nicely authentic, mostly within a single topic?! Also a bit disappointed with the HUD including the inventory. The typical floating white scribbled lines UI that is EVERYWHERE these days. Is this lack of originality really all current devs can bring forth? :( But at least the controls feel ok-ish, nothing I'd rate annoying. On the upside. for me the designs of the iconic armor types are mostly well made. Akin to the molerat redesign, it felt both characteristic and true to the orignal at the same time. Thumbs up! At least for what was present. Sadly, the demo pretty much ended before it really started, so it's hard to say anything about the skill system and gameplay with its feel. I hoped it would end with Nyras joining the swamp camp, after a very limited amount of 2 or 3 small quests, and being denied access to the old and new camp. Or something like that. Sadly not. But they depicted Nyras with full hair, showing that novices get their head shaved. Please put this love of detail in more aspects of the game! PS: the sleeperhead popup in the end: second-hand embarrassment! Idea nice, executing terrible! Final verdict: worried, but not without hope

Good direction. Some improvements needed

Coming from an old Gothic fan: Positives: - General atmosphere (faithful to the original) - Monster designs (faithful to the original) - Music and sound effects (faithful to the original) - UI and immersion (faithful to the original) - Combat skill progression (faithful to the original) - Voice acting - Dialogue Negatives: - General movement and animations are very heavy and slow (turning, looting etc) - Buttons sometimes unresponsive, it doesn't feel like I control the character fully, both in combat and out of it. This happens regardless to the character skill in one-handed. - Climbing needs improvement. More places should have been climbable based on geometry. Now climbing feels more contextual rather than geometry-based - Some invisible walls present (let me fall of the cliff :) ). I guess this will be removed in the full game but I have to mention it anyway Generally I enjoyed what I saw so far and it is a huge improvement over the playable teaser. If the above issues are fixed I think we can have a winner.

Key binding not working...

so I cannot play considering wasd controls are garbage on my keyboard. Even if it's still a demo, key binding is kind of a mandatory feature considering how many different keyboards settings there are in the world. I'll return to KCD2 until the game can be played with my keyboard.

Not quite there

There is some potential here but it's a far cry from being Gothic. The character movement and controls feel far too cumbersome and slugish, like there is a delay between input and action and the control depends heavily on animation execution, meaning you can only move as fast as the character is able to animate. This is particularly noticeable every time you interact with something, like a chest, or to pick up something. Performance is absolutely terrible and I get that it's just a demo but it's still unacceptable. If this is how the demo runs, the final, open world game will run even worse if they don't optimize it. Graphics look pretty but it's a little too much if you ask me. Too much fidelity detail, too much clutter everywhere, it just feels overwhelming and stressful to watch. My eyes felt tired after playing just a few minutes. I think they went too much on the fidelity scale instead of artistic expression. The UI is terrible and and far from the simple and intuitive inventory menus from the first 2 games. It also looks very generic and again it misses that artistic expression the old games had. Character designs are also very generic and bland looking, since they tried to make them look as realistic as possible. Voice acting is all over the place, with wierd name pronuntiations and accents, kind of like how it was in Gothic 3, like the actors didn't actually know how the names were pronounced in the first 2 game and pronounced them like they thought they should sound. I'm not pretending like the first 2 had great voice action but at least it was consistently decent enough. As it stands it looks like a generic, modern, action/ RPG game, in the Gothic skin suit. I'm sure plenty of people who haven't played the original games will find it fun and entertaining but for me, being a huge fan of the first 2 games, this just isn't it. Hopefully they improve on it and optimize it better for the final game, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Never played the original, but this looks amazing. A+ 4 atmosphere.

Looks great. Controls seem fine to me. One minor bug - the meatbugs like to climb up on invisible rocks and seem to float. One of the amazing sights - that waterfall scene. Great water effects. I just want to hang out there for awhile. Looking forward to the full release.
