Gorogoa

A beautiful, imaginative gem. Quite short but worth every second, and would have overstayed its welcome if it was any longer. However, this is a game for people who like to watch pretty art and watch interesting things in motion. The puzzles are not difficult enough for anyone who considers themself a puzzle game fan - they're just the right difficulty to give you nice "a-ha!" moments. And the story exists more as a sequence of feelings and emotions than as a sequence of events. If you are looking for a complex puzzle game, or an intricate story, there's a fair chance you'll be disappointed. But if you know what this game is, and you like it, it'll be a brilliant experience that'll stay with you for a long time.

As an experienced adventure game player, i have to say this is a unique puzzle game because of the use of a 4 panel grid which actually bends time and space to tell its story, simply brilliant. The hand drawn graphics are beautiful and the music fits the setting perfectly. It is short but this is not an issue, i will replay it soon to get more of the story. Well done!

I love nearly everything about gorogoa - it has great story, that is provided in gentle manner, it has great gameplay design and carefully polished graphics. But it's sad it is so short, and this impression is even more amplified if you completed the demo. I would love to dive into this world deeper.

As you can see in the store description, this puzzle game is about moving pieces of art in a 2x2 grid, zooming in, zooming out, arranging the pieces next to one another to progress. The game starts easy, but eventually the puzzles become surprisingly complex, including physical puzzles where you need to bring objects from one image to another through the transitions. A nice feature of the game is that if you click on a piece of art, ALL active zones of that art flash briefly to aid you. This, however, doesn't allow you to just "click yourself to the solution" - often times, it's not so much the "what" as the "how" that is the challenge. The graphics is truly a work of art, and despite being a puzzle game at its core, it also tells a compelling story. Wholeheartedly recommended!

Gorogoa passes as a puzzle game - and the puzzles are well-designed, intuitive, and non-trivial - but it's first and foremost a piece of beautiful interactive art. Come for the puzzles, stay for the experience. The puzzle design isn't as masterful as Portal or as thematically clever as Braid, and the emotional depth of its space is never as all-encompassing as Journey or Gone Home, but if you've liked some of those games, this is well worth your time. Alternatively, its simple interface makes it a great choice for casual gamers who want to experience an artistic high without struggling with a full-fledged "game".
