BlüEBERRY EDiTiON adds new content to GoNNER

Out of the blüe, we’ve updated our first IGF award-winning game! GoNNER BlüEBERRY EdiTION adds new weapons, heads, enemy types, a new challenge, some sweet, sweet, new visuals. And yes, there are also blüeberries.

  • New head! Attack enemies from below!
  • New weapon! Spikes and skull explosions. Aw yeah!
  • New world! Fishes and blueberries!
  • A bunch of fine-tunings and stuff!
  • Some neat new visuals!

Hop back into GoNNER if it’s been a while! And if you lose your head, it’s cool—we have plenty more where that came from.

GoNNER is a tough as hell procedurally-generated 2D platformer with roguelike elements, following the largely misunderstood and altruistic Ikk on a journey to cheer up his only friend in this world—a giant landbound whale named Sally—by searching for just the right trinket in the deep and dark places nearby.

With Death as his mentor, supplying both a multitude of abilities and arsenal for Ikk to use, Ikk traverses an ever-changing land full of unwieldy creatures who don't appreciate his trespassing or his friend Sally. Several different environments, arduous bosses, hidden secrets, multiple endings, and more await Ikk on his journey to make one person happy even if it kills him—which it certainly will.

Maximum game per game

I like games where non-game elements don't get in the way. Sometimes cinematic and narrative and simulation elements can be present when selected carefully and a game still retains it's coherence, but sometimes that's where it all falls apart. I look to games like GoNNER as perfect examples of games that give you the most game per game, whose developers likely expect you to go watch a movie if you want strong narrative and cinematic elements. Every aspect of GoNNER's design aims to serve you interesting decisions that have interesting effects as it relates to direct and indirect consequences in each level, but also your success in the economy (your score). Relative success, if you have Steam, but leaderboards aren't present on GOG meaning you have to rely on motivation to beat your own score here. I don't think that is enough for most players though. If you're locked to GOG, go learn Devil Daggers instead, as it has equal "game per game" but less variety overall, but if you're looking for a masterclass in Rogue-like score-chasing bliss, I recommend getting GoNNER on Steam! Be forewarned, this game doesn't do cross-saves properly, so I recommend getting acquainted with a guide to unlock everything. I found most unlocks dicking around in the game, but it was worth it to know exact methods for getting everything if you want to be able to enjoy the game after a fresh install. Trust me bro, I broke into the top 10 scores in 2018. That grind was fever-pitch bliss. Threading the needle between rushing and making mistakes, and being cautious and missing opportunities to keep your combo, talk about runners high... Bluberry or not, this game is fire. Truly a "chef's kiss" experience.

2 Miniscule Design Choices Prevent 5/5

Simple yet difficult gunner w/ tons of replayibility that run-n-gun fans will love. Gameplay: Gonner is challenging yet impressively well-balanced, despite some opinions I've read. Ikk takes 1 hit w/o a mask, but the player gets one that will allow them to take 4 or even 6 very early in the game. The devs knew the game would be hard, so they sparingly put out masks and hearts. Ikk has powerups that regenerate very quickly. The ammo bar is daunting, but the last shot always drops a reload, in my experiences. Place it well, and it's alright. Ikk drops everything when hit, but he's invincible until the player hits jump to "respawn." Some rooms seem impossibly cluttered, but the rapid fire powerup makes quick work of rooms w/ some forethought, all while using 0 ammo. The player sees each level before it starts, and they can simply wait for enemies to move if their positions are too disadvantageous. I like to wait and drop onto their heads for easy kills. Above all, if Ikk dies, the action swiftly starts again. My 1st complaint is that Ikk can get too close to an enemy to shoot them bc the gun goes through them. Controls: Has everything necessary, almost has everything any player could want. With more directions of aiming, I would say it controls perfectly. I've seen odd comparisons to Super Meat Boy, even though the controls are very tight, much unlike SMB. The jump appears annoyingly short at first, but you start off w/ double jump, and you can recharge your double jump just by touching a wall. Holding onto a wall also makes it easy to set up shots, due to how slow you slide down. Once you learn to use the walls and tops of enemies heads/balloons well, many new possibilities open up. Art: You get what you see. I think this style is cute. It makes truly unique environments while leaving room for imagination. Its dark color palette is very easy on the eyes. Music: Atmosphericly energetic. I wouldn't listen to it personally, but it enhances the game. Story: Who cares

2d shooter

Its good game but scenario always the same and if you dies start all over again. too repetitive and you wont play for long unless you are some kind of masochist. This game you play some and go to another... then later you try it again. I recommend this game for casual play. If you are genius skill player like one that can end "meat boy" without problem, you end this game in one weekend.

This game is such a blast!

I have 162 hours racked up on this game on my steam account. When I first got this game on Steam, I didn't really know what to expect. What I ended up with, is easily in my top 15 favorites of all time. Now, this may or may not be for you. And I'm going to try to shed a little light on that. First off, it's a fast paced shooter. Procedural generated levels (I mean that in a very minimalist way. The stages are just set up a little different each time.) The movement is what makes most folks either love it or not. It takes a little practice. At least, if you want to make the psychedelic aspect of this game come through. What I mean is, the game doesn't HAVE to be super fast paced. You are not on a timer that is going to game over you. But if you can kill enough baddies fast enough and string it along, then you start making the BIG points. When you make the BIG points, all of the colors start switching through different color scheams real fast and it's quite the effect. Not recommended to those with epilepsy. There are also heads, weapons and specials to unlock. Some are through secret areas. Some are through speedrunning and that sort of thing. This game won an award the year it was released for the audio. And I can easily see why. All of the sound fx are ultra crisp and sharp. If you are at all into IDM music, you'll see what I mean. The audio is ultra satisfying. The runs aren't that long, but there are some pretty brutal parts. Some of the bosses are pretty difficult at first. When you no longer have enough points to resurect, then it's right back to the beginning. If you like action rougeLITES, then for 99 measley cents, you really should try this out. Last thing I wanna mention, there isn't just a ton of story. It's real abstract, but the story you do find, it's very touching. To me it seems to reflect the love that went into this game. I honestly cannot recommend it enough. ESPECIALLY FOR 99 FRIGGIN CENTS!!!
