Enter the Norse realm
His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive… and teach his son to do the same.

Grasp a second chance
Kratos is a father again. As mentor and protector to Atreus, a son determined to earn his respect, he is forced to deal with and control the rage that has long defined him while out in a very dangerous world with his son.

Journey to a dark, elemental world of fearsome creatures
From the marble and columns of ornate Olympus to the gritty forests, mountains and caves of pre-Viking Norse lore, this is a distinctly new realm with its own pantheon of creatures, monsters and gods.

Engage in visceral, physical combat
With an over the shoulder camera that brings the player closer to the action than ever before, fights in God of War™ mirror the pantheon of Norse creatures Kratos will face: grand, gritty and grueling. A new main weapon and new abilities retain the defining spirit of the God of War series while presenting a vision of conflict that forges new ground in the genre.

Tedious

My main complaint is the RPG attribute system which completely ruins combat in this game. Each combat segment features a significant number of enemies. The only viable strategy is to dispose of them as quickly as possible. To achieve that, it’s absolutely obligatory to collect various stuff around the world, do side-quests and create upgrades to “outstat” the enemies, or you won’t be able to defeat them. At first you’re restricted to the axe. It’s a terrible weapon, because you can hardly engage more than one opponent at the same time. Given how many of them appear, and how spammy some of their attacks can be, you’re forced to constantly dodge and evade until you acquire useful abilities, which is frustrating. Skill progression is slow in the first half of the game which just exacerbates this issue. Enemy variety is poor, as most of them are humanoids with different textures. A few bosses are repeated several times throughout the game. The game is littered with chests. You need to use them to upgrade your health and rage meters. Some can only be opened by solving a puzzle, which are largely trivial and only become a nuisance the further into the game. Lots of people praise the game for lack of loading screens, but that came at a cost. You’ll often have to use elevators, climb obstacles or walk through gaps to give the engine breathing room to load assets. This means that you’ll be waiting anyway so I don’t see any breakthrough here. Moreover, in the open world section, the CPU seems to be constantly busy which in my case resulted in poor performance. The interface is ugly. The map looks fancy, but you can hardly retrieve any meaningful information from it. E.g. the layout of the interior location you’re in is not show at all, just the general area which is useless. The story is clichéd. Any time you are about to reach your goal, some obstacle appears and you need to overcome it, having to run to and fro.

PC version is constantly crashing

Was dreaming to get this game for a long time, finally has bought it on birthday and started to play. All my expectations were met, the atmosphere, story, gameplay were just great - but just for first 5 minutes. Another game start, another crash in less than 10 minutes. I've read a lot of forums, tried many approaches to fix this issue (including reducing graphics settings and increase of virtual memory - nothing helped. It's very sad but this masterpiece was very poorly ported to PC - have requested to money refund for now. It looks like complains in forums do not make any impact on Sony - hope that numerous refunds and money loss will finally pay their attention to this annoying issue with such a wonderful game.

A great game that finally reaches PC

God of War is a fantastic video game that takes a different route than the previous God of War series, yet is able to stay true to its origins just the same. My little brother played the OG god of war with its hack and slash action back in the day all the time, and while this is a different experience of an older and more grounded Kratos, you can still find the same level of puzzles and detail to combat. I am aware that a lot of people have grown to dislike God of War 2, with its subpar storyline when compared to the first game, as well as its forced diversity (Loki's future wife, the frost giant Angrboda, suddenly just happens to look like an african girl despite the clearly scandinavian location? Really?) and suddenly passivism (even though it makes "somewhat" sense Atreus to take a different route than his father). However, I can promise you, Sweet Baby Inc had no hand in making this masterpiece. Just ignore the sequel, pretend it never existed, and indulge yourself (again) into this amazing video game made by writers with a clearly unbiased passion for the series. God of War rocks!

Graphically stunning & hard to master

If your looking for a title to push your GPU this is it, if your looking for a title to run and look good on low end hardware this is it, the game looks amazing on all presets and has the room to look even better on more powerful hardware. For example on my entry level gaming laptop below: GTX 1660 TI (6GB VRAM) 16GB RAM RYZEN 5 4600H With textures and anisotropic filtering being the only two settings set to high and the rest set to original (original being the same as PS4/PS4 Pro/PS5 settings) and the game locked to 70fps the game would only minorly drop below 60fps (58fps 59fps for split seconds) on very few occasions, the overall average would be 70fps and your getting better than PS4 and PS5 (PS5 uses orignal settings with checkerboard rendering locked to 60fps) settings, this would be with FSR 2.0 enabled which is an amazing feature to have, the upscaling comes out better than native 1080p IMO with textures looking more defined with a huge performance boost, and this was using the quailty mode with FSR 2.0 you could also use the performance mode at the cost of blurry graphics. Gamplay wise the games main story is good (acting is very good) and the game is not overly long but there is plenty of replay value, you won't even have scratched the surface with collecting and upgrading everything on your first playthrough. The menus can be confusing at the start and remembering all the upgraded movesets can be a challenage. Fighting certain enemies can be overwhleming (if your a lower level don't) if you do not have a strategy, you will need to switch between the blades and hachet and watch your back and control your son all at the same time, but once you master most of that you will enjoy the game better. Worth a mention, the game wants to collect your gameplay data, if you block in your firewall you won't get the achievements, other than that I highly recommened this game.

The next step

Being a fan of the original trilogy with all its brutal and gory violence, when the fourth part was announced I didn't know how to react, I was happy with Kratos comeback, but it wasn't the Kratos I remembered, yet... After you play the game you get this is the correct way to continue the story, what else could be? Kratos obtain his vengeance in God of War 3 and the world was destroyed, you have to rebuild and that is what Kratos will try to do across the game keep moving forward, searching for another reason to live, searching for forgiveness, searching an opportunity to make things differently. Great graphics, great soundtrack, great story, great and powerful combat, I just can recommend this game, it's yours the the decision to play it or not, but if you do, you will live a great redemption story!
