Gobliiins pack

The Gobliiins games were never good games. They were reasonably funny slapstick comedies in an oddball scenario. What made them enjoyable was that they represented a relief from the seriousness King's Quest. Going by the puzzle designs alone, neither Gobliiins! game would go beyond 1 star, adding the charismatic graphics and humar to it, I'd still go up to 3 stars, as long as you don't mind using hint books...

To solve most of the puzzles the player must actually try everything wih everyting and eventually come to a solution. This can be frustrating because every wrong choice leads to an energy loss: one blunder too many and you have to restart the level. I know that we are talking about some cartoonish fantasy world but usually graphic adventures (e.g. "Monkey Island") do have an underlying logic of some sort: this game doesn't. If you get bored, just grab a guide, follow it and enjoy it like you would with a cartoon (graphics and sound are fine).

Yes, there aren't always logical solutions to the puzzles, but it is so fun and funny trying to discover them! I initially played these games as a young teen, so finding them again as a 40-year-old was pure delight. I used to have to write letters requesting clues for when I was stuck and send them to Sierra in the postal mail and wait for their reply to proceed with the games. The humor interlaced throughout is so refreshing. These are by far at the top of my list of all-time favorite puzzle/adventure games. I loved the colorful and creative animation then and I still love it now.

I only had number 3 as a child and I got this to relive the memories. It's quick and easy to install and works great. But for some reason they removed the original soundtrack to the levels which was one of the best parts to the game. I don't quite understand why, since the replacement soundtrack is mostly just nature sounds... They could have even just added the sounds to the original tracks, or remade the same songs if they were gonna add so much new material into the audio, like their voices. I'm so sad at this bit of missing childhood :( I really hope they change it. Also, I would love to see it make it to Mac platform.

A wonderful, all-ages, fun and challenging game, and old gem that is good to be replayed every few years, with a whimsical identity all of its own. It can be rather hard, but never unfair and you're sure to work out the solutions on your own eventually; if not, there's always a limited amount of jokers to give you a hand. But do yourself a favor and play the floppy version that the installer provides, because the acted out dialogues are atrocious. The first two iterations also stand on their own as good adventure games, but the third chapter is the superior by far. All in all, a worthwhile pack to get for the adventure fan, to play on their own or with their children.
