Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams

On one hand it has very good atmosphere, interesting game mechanics, beautiful graphics, and nice music but the imprecise controls along with quite high level of difficulty make this game rather punishing than challenging. Pros: - atmosphere - game mechanics - graphics - music Cons: - controls - sometimes checkpoint system - difficulty Despite all the positives I am sad to say that I cannot recommend this game to fellow fathers and their families due to one big flaw – controls. I am therefore giving this nice but punishing platformer Thumb Down and VideoGaming Father’s index 6- out of ten.

Good graphics, simple controls, good gimmick, and good level design. Is it SMB 3 caliber? Well, no. But, it's really good, and gets better as you advance through it. I'd give it 4.5 stars, in deference to the few true platforming greats, but as you know, .5 rounds up to 1 :)

Very nice artwork as I'm working through the levels. Smooth transitions of scenery when flipping between sisters. After playing a few rounds with the keyboard and mouse and getting tired out despite the awesome graphics, I noticed it has gamepad support. Dug out my old Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual Analog 3 USB gamepad and am very pleased to see how easy it was to configure. Highly recommend usage of a gamepad for this game. Started with version 1.0.0.3 I wonder what the current patch of 1.1.0.7 adds or fixes.

I did not buy this game on GOG, but pledged for it on http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/project-giana/project-giana/ If you own a gamepad and like platformers, a definite must buy. Lovely graphics, great gameplay, challenging, but never unfair, exact controls, superb sound ... AND runs under wine after you install xact_jun2010 and wmp9 :)
