The Beast Within is the second installment of the trilogy presenting the dark adventures of Gabriel “Schattenjäger” Knight. This time the protagonist is on the trail of a strange wolf, murderer of a little girl. Gabriel was asked to take care of this evil and suspects that this case is paranormal in nature. Together with his assistant, Grace Nakimura, he discovers the dark truth behind the history of Bavaria.
The game employs full motion video technology to its fullest. The actors move through photo-realistic sceneries and every action leads to an FMV sequence. The game is a classic point-and-click adventure where you lead two characters through masterfully designed riddles, tons of life-like detective work and perfectly scripted dialogue. GK 2 is awesome if you can understand the English speech. There are no subtitles at all. I finished the game many decades ago in German, and for a native German it is hillarious when American actors try to speak as German people. Well, I think a few are actually native speaker.
Beside that the plot is very interesting and I think this game aged well, if you like those style of games. It sometimes feels very "real". All in all the English version feels superior to the German version.
I already have Gabriel Knight 2, and have tried installing it on Windows 7 64 bit, but it keeps giving me a message saying that it will only work on a 32 bit windows 7. Is there anyway around this without installing Virtual PC? On this site it says it works on windows 7 32 and 64 bit. How does that work?
I bought this recently in the gog xmas sale. when I saw that it was in complete full motion video I expected it to be really crap. However I'm currently playing it and having a great time. The acting is quite believable and I've laughed a few times. The game puzzles aren't too challenging - but what makes this game is the characters.
one of the best FMV detective games ive played... works well on my computer ( acer laptop with vista, onboard graphics, dual core 2ghz chip and 3 gig ram )
If you like point and click and FMV games you cant go wrong with this one
