Description

Frostpunk 2 elevates the city-survival genre to a new level. Take the role of a Steward and lead your city through a cascade of calamities taking place in a postapocalyptic, snowy setting. Build large city districts with their string of endless needs and demands. Navigate through conflicting interests of factions that populate your metropolis. As the needs of the city grow and factional power at its core rises, only you can steer the society towards an uncertain future.

THE CITY GROWS

The world is overtaken by an ever present winter, which makes expansion of the city the only way for the survival of mankind. In order to grow, the metropolis needs resources like coal and oil, just like its citizens require food and warmth. In Frostpunk 2, it's your job to tackle this never ending circle of supply and demand.

City Districts

Your city is divided into zones serving different purposes, such as housing or extraction. It’s up to you to build new ones and make sure that those already existing work in perfect unison.

Special Buildings

In time, you will have to build places like City Hall or Research Institute. Inside these buildings, you will put forth laws and projects to ensure that your city develops in the proper direction.

Colonies

To ensure that your city growth will not falter, you have to venture into the frostland. There, you can build extensive colonies that will provide all the necessary resources.

PERILS OF HUMAN NATURE

The number of your citizens steadily grows, making the task of governing them and satisfying their demands all the more challenging. As the Steward you will have to maneuver carefully across the interests of many groups inhabiting the city.

New Londoners

Your citizens can form communities and factions, each with different ideas for the city’s future. In the Council Hall you’ll put forth laws and negotiate them with the faction’s delegates.

Council Hall

Support of every faction inside the Council Hall costs dearly, as one’s faction ascension breeds discontent among others. That means you have to carefully think through every alliance.

Towards Progress

The Research Institute is where you forge the city's future. Each new project must be entrusted to a faction, forcing you to maneuver and form strategic alliances.

FACTIONS

People of your city want to have a voice in how you run things. Each faction has its own ideology and ideas for the future, yet they also have one thing in common - insatiable thirst for power. Choose your allies in the Council Hall wisely.

STORY MODE & UTOPIA BUILDER

The story of Frostpunk 2 introduces a multi-chapter saga set in the frozen wastes. Spanning across the life of the Steward this campaign lets you feel the burden of leadership as you take the responsibility for thousands of lives. At the same time, the sandbox mode called Utopia Builder with infinite play time leaves you room for boundless social and infrastructural experiments.

FULL MOD SUPPORT

Frostpunk 2 comes with a comprehensive and versatile modding tool. FrostKit will let you create your own maps, models, and scenarios inside the game. Now, only your imagination can limit the destination your city is heading to!

Clunky and lukewarm medicore

I can't set mouse sensitivity or camera moving speed so I am jumping all over the map from pop-up to pop-up. I can't rebind the middle mouse button (that changes angles of camera) to right mouse button, so I am constantly zooming in and out. Building districts with no roads made game-play loose much of it's charm. Still places have to be reached by defrosting, but it's more of a race to "click them all" (the building tiles) rather meticulously arranging buildings. Game gives very slight mobile game vibes too: gigantic pop-ups, waiting till I can build with nothing to do really (You gonna need that x3 speed often), and I just can't feel the urgency or the cold, nor the calamity. Also music got much worse in comparison to original Frostpunk, none of the tracks are memorable, while I think a lot of people remember originals theme... Definitely wait for a sale, like 50% down from original price tag.

Different but equally good

I came in expecting a similar experience to the first installment and while at their core both games are similar, Frostpunk 2 cranks it up a notch. The increased political aspect of walking a fine line to balance all factions' favour or simply choosing a side makes it very intriguing. I enjoyed the large scale that came with Frostpunk 2, particularly with regards to exploring the frostlands and setting up colonies. Managing multiple cities at the same time and keeping all factions happy gives you plenty to do. I've never had to fast forward since there's almost always something on hand! If you enjoyed the first I'd say the second is definitely worth a try, but remind yourself that it's a different experience. In my opinion both are at the same level.

Fantastic game that expands on the first

I played FP2 before FP1, so my experience was fresh and exciting. I loved it! I went on to spend 55 hours enjoying the main story and a few utopia builder cities to see more of the factions, locations, and experiment with new strategies. Exploring the frostland to establish colonies you can fully build for resources is particularly fun. I was utterly hooked and now I'm looking forward to whatever the future DLC will be. Writing this now, I have also played through FP1's main story and am working my way through all the scenarios, so my perspective has shifted a little overall in an even more positive direction. I can now see the origins and concepts that were expanded on to give this game the feeling of a larger scale sequel with the same core. I'm sure some people won't appreciate how utterly different the city building and politics aspects are compared to FP1, but I love it. FP1 is about building your city to survive. FP2 feels like you continue to build your city to thrive. You saved New London from the storm, now you must expand and survive the whiteouts while playing politics. TLDR No, this is not just FP1 with a few updated mechanics/graphics. It's a new experience you can enjoy alongside FP1 that still feels familiar. FP2 will only get better from here as the devs continue to update and release new DLC to add more content.

Good successor of the great first part

The gameplay is engaging. The atmosphere, especially during the first few hours when the player is learning how to manage the town and deal with factions, is fantastic. After a few hours, the game loses some of its charm and becomes less challenging. Increasing the difficulty level could help, but I’m not sure if it would make the game more interesting or just harder and more time-consuming. It’s a decent game, worth playing for fans of city builders and Frostpunk 1. Hopefully, the DLC will bring more late-game content and more faction conflicts.

Unplayable after last update...

I have played for about 12 hours last week, game crashed few times, but in general it was working ok (it's normal that after release many games need hot fixes, so few crashes here and there are fully accpetable). After the hot fix today, it crashes right after logos, I cant even see the menu, so it's fullly unplayable. Regarding the game itself: very dissapointing. Frostpunk was a great city builder, mixed with survival, exploration, and elements of political management. Micromanagement of resource and workforce in early game stages was sometimes annoying, but that was what made the game demanding and simple at the same time, and also so versatile and addictive. Frostpunk 2 is closer to Anno series than to first Forstpunk, where you have your main city and manage the colonies and political relations between the parties. There is much less 'acting against all odds', less race against the clock, the overwhelming frost has lost its terryfing power... "Oh... 200 people froze to death... But 1600 people are joining your city...". In Frostpunk people were valued, even if you considered them just as a workforce or a resource you needed, they were very important. In Frostpunk 2 you don't care about them anymore, as every 'true' politician you want their votes but don't care about their lives... The UI is totally NOT intuitive (after 10 hours I still had to sometimes think twice where to click, I can't recall last time I had such issue with any game interface ...), there are multiple glitches (you want to read one thing, so you hover mouse over the icon, stats are showing up, but then a 'help' bubble pops up as well covering teh stats you wanted to read...). I hope for many more bug fixes... The only thing left from the first game is the name...
