    Introduction

    • Frontier Hunter is a genuine Metroidvania game. Compared to our last work, Frontier Hunter has fuller stories, content, monsters, more exquisite scenes, smoother actions, and a more diversified, personalized cultivation system. We’ll do our best to make the game construction more thorough and stable. Also, we’ll add more featured experience, gameplay, and content in future updates.
Two years ago, Erza obtained the legendary hunter license and became a rising star in the imperial force. Under the rule of the wise and able emperor, the empire grows steadily. As one of the core forces in the expansion, Erza has won many military exploits.
In this fantasy world of swords and magic, Erza will lead an exploration team and start an epic adventure. She will fight unknown monsters and solve mysteries of the world. Why would the fiend become a hair clip? You’ll find the answer in the game.

    Features

    • Classic side-scrolling levels with steadier, smoother gameplay. Jump and dash can interrupt other actions’ recovery to get smoother responses.

    • During your exploration in the game world, you may find secret passages between the two main areas or accidentally enter unknown chambers with hidden stories.
    • Improved cartoon rendering makes the characters more lifelike.

    • Real beat 'em up combat system. Enemies have more ways to act after hit.

    • You’ll depend more on tactics when it comes to BOSS fights—learn their routines and act swiftly. Seize the chance to hit while keeping a distance.
    • With the character change and support system, Erza won’t be fighting alone.

    • 2.5D exquisite scenes will surely make an impression on you. The ultimate skills are made in 3D, which enables cool shows that 2D can’t do.
    • With a more diversified, personalized cultivation system, you can choose your favorite way to raise characters and find more possibilities.

    By the "rule of cool"

I'll keep it short and sweet. There's a lot of goodness for the senses. Unless you hate anime style visuals with a passion, the game looks pretty good even with the level design being a little too "blocky". But then again, most metroidvania are like that. The OST is really pleasant. But the best part of this game is the combat. Unlike most in its genre, Frontier Hunter features a LOT of cool and stylish special moves which hit hard and aren't hard to perform. If you're really good, you can even do combos, but they're not mandatory at all to complete the game. It's not really on the difficult side. You can hot-swap between up to 3 characters, each with their distinct play style, weapons and armour loadout, health and mana pool. Exploration: There is maybe too little need for backtracking unless you're farming ingredients for crafting. Nothing particularly new in terms of traversal options. For those craving a challenge, there's a special area where you can challenge bosses with increasing difficulty. Or you can get creative and try completing the game with your starting weapons or other handicaps. The game's unique gimmick is the Magic Core system. Defeated monsters drop stat-altering magic cores with occasional passive bonuses which can be slotted into your gear. Conclusion: a solid 8.5/10

    "We have Bloodstained at home"

So, here's the thing: gameplay-wise this is an Igavania knock-off (no attempt to be a souls-like or make a caricature of a NES title) and it's rather fun if one doesn't mind some jank. The art style of the environments isn't super readable (a few times I couldn't tell if an element of the scenery was a platform or not) the interface for the upgrades is also not the best and in general has a lot of little issues that nevertheless never detracted from the enjoyment. However unlike its roguelike predecessor Tower Hunter this game has a lot more story with cutscenes animated in-engine. And that's bad because... Well, the game engine is pretty basic and they are not well animated or directed but that's not the worst part, at least for me. No, the worst part is that half are boring exposition (which really would have been much better with the classic dialogue boxes) and half are bottom-of-the-barrel anime cringe (I know the devs are Chinese but they should really look at media other than animes for their humor) mostly sex jokes involving the lesbian sidekick trying to grope the protagonist and similar stuff (and given how the engine looks I doubt those that appreciate would be particularly thrilled about them). And said sex jokes aren't limited to the animated cutscenes as some of the dialogues you can hear while playing between the characters are also basically sex jokes when they aren't exposition, of course. They are spaced out enough that I did finish the game as I enjoyed the gameplay enough but frankly they should have put the effort for the in-engine cutscenes into improving other aspects of the game. PS: there are a couple of shooter sequences during the first half but the game abandons these attempts at gameplay variation quite swiftly thankfully. PPS: the English localization from Chinese is better compared to the first game but not by much, being Italian I gave a look at that localization and it was quite abysmal which doesn't bode well for the rest.

    Cozy and fun

Nice little game, fun and addictive. Not very intuitive many times, runs less smooth than Bloodstained (another metroidvania based on UE 4 engine).
