Descent: Freespace Battle Pack

I have never played space sims. I only played arcade style ship games like Rogue Squadron and Crimson Skies. So I did not know what to expect from Freespace. By reading the reviews I decided to get it and I must tell you I'm glad I did. The game is quite captivating, you feel like you're part of the war. Also you do feel the scale of the world when you are next to a command ship and parts where everyone is shooting at each other. So if you only played arcade shooters give this one a try there is plenty of action and maybe will get you into this type of space sims.

I played this game when it first released on 1998 and absolutely loved it. I am a big Starlancer, Freelancer and Wing Commander fan and this game gave me that I needed. Thanks Interplay and Volition and great thanks to GOG for giving us a chance to play this awesome game again. If you are loving space sims go and buy this game and Freespace 2. I hope Volition and THQ will make new Freelancer game for it`s fans.

I first purchased Freespace and the expansion as a bargain bin jewel case deal for 10 bucks. I was expecting to find a game to amuse me for a few hours on a boring afternoon. Several weeks later, I was craving for more. As a big fan of the X-wing & Tie-Fighter series, this game fits the bill of the space combat simulator. It is (unfortunately) the last of an incredible genre. The graphics on this game are still good for a playthrough. The handling and customization of the ships are both above average. Yet the story, something often ignored in many space sims, is very enticing...addressing you as the classic "unknown" cadet, evoking the old gaming tradition from long ago. This is only matched by it's sequel which only raises the bar. If you have a deep catalog of space sims, you already own this game. If you're looking for something to do for an afternoon, get the WD40 out for your joystick!

Surprisingly fun game. A solid classic. My only gripe is that it's often unclear whether you lost a mission or whether there was a scripted loss. But overall, this game is very enjoyable, it's up there with the best space fighter simulations.

Every pore of this game oozes polish. The environment is stunning and the acting is exciting! 10/10 this game contains more effort than any game in this generation.
