This game makes me feel old
This game makes me feel old, when my first thought for this review is "they dont make them like this anymore".

Simply Amazing
Remember playing this as a kid over and over again, didn't take long for me to relive that feeling after i downloaded it, great fun game but so immersive, the scenarios really put you in the middle of the action, well worth a go, even better if you have a joystick.

Perfection in a Space Sim
The original game was critically acclaimed but there is so much more here. This game enjoys a strong mod community who have created new graphics, new models, new missions, many new and continued continued story lines and several conversions to other story universes including Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica reimagined, Babylon 5 and Wing Commander.

Great Value
buying this game, you get a great war time story from the perspective of an anonymous pilot. also, you get access to a great many mods and campaigns for Freespace 2 Open(available free from hard-light.net), an open source engine upgrade project greatly enhancing the visuals and capabilities of the base Freespace 2 game. note that these mods still require access to the Freespace 2 data files. d the foremost of these, in my mind, is the blue planet series. BP carries on the freespace story with a shockingly good narrative. buy it, you wont be disappointed (unless you don't like flight sims)

Huge Impact!
I played this game when I was 14 years old on an old IBM Aptiva PC, and now at 27 I'm still in love with it! I always try to find space simulator games that is equivalent to Freespace (I put this game as a benchmark) and most of the games don't come even close to what this game does. If people think that other space combat games / simulator / MMORPG are better than this one, they just have not tried playing Freespace yet!
