Description
The year is 2367, thirty two years after the Great War. Or at least what YOU thought was the Great War. The seemingly endless tide of Shivan capital ships, bombers and fighters with super advanced technology was nearly overwhelming.

As the Terran and Vasudan races finish rebuilding their decimated societies, a disturbance lurks in the not-so-far reaches of the Gamma Draconis system.

Your nemesis has arrived... and they are wondering what happened to their scouting party...

Fantastic game!

This is, by far, the greatest space sim ever made! the dogfighting has an edge-of-your-seat, white knuckle intensity. the captial ship seem majestic and deadly. the beam cannons add a sense of being an ant in a giants war.

DESCENT: FreeSpace 2 and FreeSpace Open

I must say that when I first started playing this game back in '99, I didn't think much of it...until about six years later! Back in '05, I found out that Volition's DESCENT: FreeSpace 2 had been released a second time in '01 that included a Source version of the game made by Hard-Light Productions (HLP). Since then, I've seen how far this game (...AND it's series...) have come since its release! HLP made FreeSpace a modding paradise compared to most other games! I mean, the guys in the HLP community have made (AT LEAST) 50+ mods for the game! I'd like to see a different game beat that!!! And if THAT wasn't enough, then what really made FreeSpace: Source (aka: "FreeSpace 2: Source Code Project" or "FreeSpace: Open") beautiful was that HLP RE-DID all the models, textures, and skins ON ALL the ships and objects, as well as made FS2 OpenGL compatible (which is the best thing to use when running the SCP; for some reason, it doesn't like Direct 3D). HLP also threw in all sorts of little toys to play around with when running the SCP, increasing the enjoyment of the game EVEN MORE!!! Also, (and just an FYI for anyone who wants to see if they can get a free copy of the game) FreeSpace Open may come with all the files needed to make the game as good as I described it, but, as of the Source release version 3.6.9, HLP NO LONGER put in a copy of each of the FreeSpace games, which is good for GoG, and bad for loner gamers. If you have the game and want the SCP, click on the link below: http://www.hard-light.net/ PS: I AM a HLP member, so I do know this info is all confirmed. Oh, and, yes, the HLP staff and community added to ALL the information about the FreeSpace history, races, and tech you see in the game. Just look on the Hrad-Light Wiki!

It's Been A Long Time

It's been a long time since I've played FS2. I cannot wait. One of the best games I ever played and the add-on content from fans was top-notch. Excited as heck. :P

Amazing

I discovered the series a long time ago in an unlikely way: A mod called Beyond the Red Line (now discontinued) had three action packed BSG levels I played quite a bit. A few months later, I found The Babylon Project, and soon discovered that the two mods were based on the same engine. I looked into the game and finally on August 28, 2009, I gave in. Now, at that point, I was a rather good player, but I had developed a knack for finishing whole campaigns in one sitting. Having a good joystick at my side, and a level head in combat, I dove into the first game. Truly amazing stuff. Sure, the resolution was low (640 x 480) but it was still a blast to play. I moved on to Freespace 2, before I decided to get FS Open, and play the games AGAIN with updated graphics. I don't think I've found a game I play more frequently than this. The only drawback is that the multiplayer service is rarely, if ever used. I have yet to play a single online game, but the concept intrigues me. Buy. This. Game. With FS_Open, the replay value is almost limitless with great mods like Blue Planet, FSPort, Just Another Day, and others. PLAY THE FREAKING GAME! DOO IIIT!
