Freedom Force

After seeing all the reviews saying that this is the version to use over the Steam one, I purchased it. On a Windows 10 Machine, the game can not get past the EA and Crave logos without crashing. There are even GOG forum posts about this issue when running on Windows 10 dating back to 2018. The Base recommendations are running as administrator and using various Windows versions of compatibility mode. There is also some talk Freedom Force having V-Sync issues, and running it in windowed mode will prevent the crashing. I have tried running as administrator for all Compatibility Mode Options, windowed and full screen, and nothing resolves. I have also gone through the all of the GOG launch trouble shooting options, and have installed Direct X packages, and now can get the game to crash before the logos 2/3 of the time. Sweet! Other forum recommendations are to use DLLs from pirated copies, or using the actual CD version of the game. Not very helpful... I don't have access to a Windows 11 Machine, but the forum posts I found said they had the same issue. If this issue hasn't been resolved since 2018, it likely won't be. Don't waste your money. I am asking for a refund.

This is an amazing game and also an imperfect port. Right click to PROPERTIES, select the COMPATIBILITY tab, and run it for WINDOWS 98/ME, check the RUN AS ADMINSTRATOR box and you'll be fine. You may have to start the game from the GOG application, but this will do the trick.

2K has retroactively changed their EULA. Now they collect literally anything on your computer (including but not exclusively visited websites or payment information for example). Not sure if they are also installing rootkit like software in the gog version like they do in non gog versions. gog should consider banning all 2k games because I dont think that their EULA complies with gogs vision...

Stream version is bugged, this works.

Bought both this and it's sequel when the sequel first came out and I still have only one complaint... they never made a third game in the series. The storyline is fun (and scratches the silver age itch) and with the powers coming from alien intervention always reminded me a little of the Wild Cards books. Both this and the sequel are two of the most enjoyable PC games I've ever played.
