Shows promise......

I got this game on another platform, but wanted to share my opinions on here, The first time you load the game, there is almost no help at all, it took me some time to figure out you need to assign EACH villager to a task to get things going, the economy doesn't really take off until you unlock the market & trading, you will want to sell as much as possible to keep your gold coming in. the game does tend to not warn you about certain things like why certain systems aren't working, you have to figure out a lot of it on your own. the game does get better once more villagers appear, they tend to spawn every couple of days, why the game has no way to "spawn" new villagers without sending them in from the outside world is beyond me.. Universim has no issues there.. this game is still very much an alpha so, they could add in, to borrow from the sims, a woo hoo feature, LOL. as for now, it's an okay game, most of the important mods have not been updated, so it's hard to grasp the game w/o any help form the easy start mod or sandbox mode. Hopefully the modder will pay attention and update that soon enough. My review might change in the following months, if a major update is implemented. the game does sometimes crash for no reason, I guess there is a memory leak, I've put in enough time on the game to have 4 1/2 years of game time, I do use a 3rd party app to boost my income & speed the game up really fast, and build things much quicker, the base game is kind of slow, when it comes to that.. I don't think you can really build anything thing other than a church with near the same level of customization as Planet Coaster at this time.. Everything else is cookie cutter buildings, so if you want huge amounts of stuff to customize, wait a few months.. I'm thinking this game might go full release in a year or two, tops..

Good game, but ...

They need to work on the late game, and the living stiuation of your peasants. Even if you build new houses next to your pruduction sites your peasants will find a way to cross half the city work for a bit and go back home. This kills your economy. Maybe there is a trick I haven't figuered out yet, but if your City becomes too big it'll die.

Quite Peaceful

This game has much potential to be great. Quite alot of content for an alpha too. Is alot less harsh than Banished, but is very similar. Can reccomend :)

Great in development game

I'll get it out of the way up front. This game isn't polished yet, but writing while it's in development, I'm not expecting that. What I do see is a core game that's very good and fun. The interface will need some work to guide players a bit better, but I only made one catastrophic mistake a few minutes into my first game, and from there, my other mistakes were all recoverable (and kind of fun still). Very few true bugs (crashes and glitches) for a game at this stage too - better than some finished games! I love the terrain in this game and the way that paths and housing naturally occur based on where people want to be. It makes the game much more immersive, in my opinion. I like the concepts of the quests right now, though simple. Most of the game is resource management and building and expansion, but that's also what I expect from a city builder. I enjoyed both Cities:Skylines and Banished, and this one is different from both of them (though with Banished elements for sure). Different enough though to be a new kind of fun, I think. Just the fact that terrain isn't really a barrier makes the cities you can build here much more interesting. I've played about 5 or 6 hours so far, but am looking forward to more, and to seeing where they take this game. if you like city builders, this game is worth a try, even in its current state, I think.

Solid core systems

(In development 2/9/2019) The systems are intuitive if you ever played any city builder. It starts you out with goals that introduce you to the progression. A dictionary or encyclopedia would be nice. The organic nature of the game is relaxing to watch unfold. You build public facilities and zone areas for use, and the citizens carve out their own roads and build their own houses. My only concern at this phase is that you need to assign every villager a job, and they all gain skill levels. At a dozen citizens this is not too difficult, but once new citizens immigrate it can start to feel a lot. I wouldn't want this to change though. I feel the limiter to city growth will not be resources or available space, but my ability to keep track of everyone. I'm intrigued by this and will have to see how my miliage will vary in the long term. I haven't played long enough to notice any generational mechanics such as Banished. The assets are still pretty simple in landscape and structure variation. You have one type of grass with one type of tree on some hills and cliffs. I will look forward to more details to make the world feel more alive, as right now it feels mechanical. I stopped playing for now because I don't want to spoil the game for myself before it gets fully featured. What I see now is a solid foundation of systems that I really want to mess with down the road.
