Very good with few annoyances

High level, the game is a side-scrolling hack and slash adventure RPG with loot. It's fun and high quality, albeit with a few issues. I beat the game and started new game + I might continue that however, I feel pretty satisfied. Seeing how the extra high-end loot develops and seeing if I can grab the extra secrets might cause me to keep playing. Would I recommend it... yes. It's cheap and I think worth the asking price. There are a few tweaks that I'd make to bring it to a near-perfect game for me however as it stands, I enjoyed it. + I loved the ability to respec + The abilities are varied and allow for some really interesting play styles + I like the art and animation + I like the sound + Platforming is mostly solid + Combat is engaging from a "Look what I can do" perspective. + Loot is fun. I enjoyed seeing how it developed. = Story is good overall. I would say it is definitely more than serviceable however it has some weak parts in my opinion such as with connections or "Why should I care?" = Difficulty is pretty meh. I felt as long as you had a basic understanding of the game and abilities you shouldn't have too much trouble. You will die from time to time. It will accommodate a lot of errors and sometimes too much. = The upgrade system is cool however, I'd rather have seen the cost tied to the number of times the item was upgraded rather than that particular vendor was utilized. The current setup makes it a little weird and punishing to experiment, especially early on. - Some abilities or effects aren't well explained. - Checkpoints. Most of them were good however there were several that just annoyed me. They were around bosses. So some were right there a moment or two away... others were several transitions away. The later ones were tedious. Thankfully I didn't have to experience it too much but when I did... I noticed the discrepancy. - Cutscenes. Some were unskippable. Overall, I am happy to own it.

Simple, fun, polished action-platformer

My first impressions of this game pre-release were "Wow, it looks like Dead Cells." You can clearly see the visual inspiration in the graphical style and enemy design, as well as in the loot with randomized modifiers. However it features traditional progression, not roguelite progression. To that end it's on the shorter side at 8-10 hours depending how much you die, but the different weapon and gun types give it replay value. It also features a NG+ mode with stronger enemies and weapons, as well as a hardcore and hardcore/ironman (no upgrades) mode. It's a well polished game in terms of production values. It features voice acted monologues and dialogues, when they do occur. The sound design and controls are great. And again, it looks like Dead Cells but that's not a bad thing. The levels are colourful and varied, same with the enemies and I think it has more enemy variety than Dead Cells (at least the version I played without all the current DLC as of 2021). In terms of gameplay the melee and gun combat reminded me of Devil May Cry in terms of how you can smoothly switch between them, although it doesn't have a crazy combo system like that. The melee weapons each have their own standard combos, and the guns are reloaded by landing melee hits. There are off the top of my head I think 6 different weapons and guns, with ascending tiers like in a looter. I didn't use them all so it gives me a reason to replay. By the end of the game almost all the drops are the highest tier so you'll feel powerful. You can change the random modifiers by going to a special NPC at the end of optional challenge missions accessible from your base. You'll want to do this because modifiers can be for your special abilities, of which there are also around 7 I think, and includes your heal. Running out of space so I can't discuss everything, but it's a solid game for the price. For criticisms I'd say the story is barebones (there is lore to read) and the wall cling is clunky. Cute MC 3.5/5

Fun!

This is a good game. The levels become more entertaining as the character progresses and unlocks new abilities. I really liked finding secrets and the boss fights were challenging but fun.

Exploration platformer meets Diablo

The futuristic city of Calagan is being overwhelmed by a corrupting force known as the Harrow. As Calagan's best fighter, you must venture through the ruins of the city, and uncover the source of the affliction. The game is primarily an action-platformer with a heavy emphasis on loot, and some exploration. You a get a melee and a ranged weapon, as well as 2 special abilities. as you collect more loot and abilities, you can combo these, upgrade your weapons and extra gear such as rings and necklaces in order to increase your damae output as well as any stats effects. You have a base camp where you can spend money to upgrade weapons and abilites as well as do challenge missions- time-based runs through previously finished areas with additional objectives or restrictions (melee only, ranged only, etc). Beating certain bosses conveys traversal abilities such as double jump, air-dash, wall-climb, etc- and you can replay earlier levels to find additional secrets, so there's some backtracking, but it's a minor aspect and a metroidvania this isn't. Combat does use stamina for your dashes and melee hits, so there's a bit of a souls-like in the mix. There's a binary choice in the end that decides your ending, but other than NG+ and playing for better loot, there's not a whole lot of replayability in here. Game runs well and I dind't notice any technical issues, and it's pretty gorgeous in terms of the art style. Decent enemy variety, too. Overall, a fun 2D Loot grinder. The levels are NOT procedurally generated and don't shuffle around on each run, so you can learn a level and get better at it untill you beat it, which is a plus in my book. Story is pretty minimal though, told mostly through some lore docs you can find in optional areas. If you beatthe challenge missions, you occasionally get some extra story snippets in those as well, but overall, this is a game all about that sweet loot grind.

Side view Hack and Slash

Hack and Slash with a few Metroid elements. Repeat explor in search of two enhancement points and drop items. If you die, the points will be dropped on the spot, so you can either collect them by yourself or collect half of them immediately. Good method is selected weapons for the each enemies algorithm.
