Years after a devastating war, the city of Calagan is once again besieged by an all-corrupting force known as the Harrow. As the city’s strongest super-soldier, it’s up to you to investigate the Harrow’s origins and prevent its reanimated minions from destroying your home. But the Harrow isn’t just reviving the dead – it’s dredging up memories better left forgotten.
Foregone is a fast and fluid 2D action-platformer packed with legendary loot and stunning pixel art. Collect an arsenal of powerful weapons and upgradeable skills, then use them to shoot and slash your way through hand-crafted pixel environments hiding a treasure trove of secrets. Unravel a compelling story of regret and conspiracy as you slice your way through hordes of enemies and carry out your mission to save Calagan from total annihilation.
This game was a blast! Lots of weapons, powers, environments, and enemies made this a lot of fun through my playthrough. It reminds me a good bit of Aria of Sorrow. I had no problems or bugs while playing this on my Steam Deck using the Heroic launcher.
Despite the looks, this game has nothing to do with Dead Cells. Anyone who says otherwise must not have played it. Yes, it's a side scroll platformer with different loadout options, but that's about it. It's not a rogue-like, it doesn't have randomly generated levels.
It's a lot slower-paced, the inventory is just annoying, the stat upgrades for your character are so incremental, it feels useless (unless they changed that in the last couple months). The soundtrack is very 'meh', the enemy design feels uninspired. The bosses are too easy — and I'm saying that as someone who isn't especially good at these kinda games and it took me ages to beat Dead Cells for the first time, but that was still way more fun.
I played until the level with the gas leaks you have to close. That's where I got so annoyed that I uninstalled. If you die right before the boss, you can't just skip the enemies on that level because the gas leaks will kill you if you skip them. So you have to go through the whole level, again. Paired with the overall slow pace and uninspired combat, that's when I had enough and went back to Hades and Dead Cells.
If you like the sluggish pace, maybe this is for you. It was, however, not what I was looking for or had imagined.
These guys are CLEARLY ripping off Dead Cells, which is the original and far superior game.
I really despise developers / companies that blatantly rip off other games' content as it shows no decision making or ability to think for themselves.
