The game is great fun. Very divers cars and tracks and the 'rag-doll' minigames.
It is a shame they missed the opportunity to implement Force-Feedback properly. The only feedback you get is on collisions. But no grip of tires, the type of street, bumps in the street and so on. That would have been awesome especially in this game.
And I'm already sick of it. I just can not stomach the terrible vehicle handling in this game. I have played racing games on the Nintendo64 that had better car handling than flatout 2. I got this game on sale for $1.99 and I still feel pain from it. I was strongly considering buying both flatout 1 and 2 and playing them both through in order because that seemed like it would make sense and I could feel and appreciate the refreshing change in the transition from 1 to 2, but after watching many videos on flatout 1 I decided I didn't like how it was mostly or all dirt tracks and some people left reviews that made me feel like maybe I shouldn't buy FO1 and Instead get the superior FO2. I really regret my decision to even buy this game alone. I can't believe how fun the game appears to be in videos of other people playing it, but when I decided to play it the experience seems profoundly generic and flat and lifeless. The music is really not something I enjoy so I turned the music off and tried to liven it up with crazy taxi music in the background but it didn't help. It's like the devs knew how boring and lifeless the game was and needed to cover that up with the game's music to inspire some kind of emotional response in the player to make up for the lack of depth or excitement. This is the type of racing game where you make one little mistake and get left crashing in the dust and instantly last place. The handling is so poor and the cars have such awful grip on the terrain that you can be going in a straight line without touching anything at average speed (not even that fast) and suddenly swerve to the left a little for no reason, try to correct and swerve to the other extreme opposite side, try to correct again and spin around 360 degrees 10 times in a row and crash. I'm not even going that fast and I have little to no control, and this is coming from someone who loves some decent racing games. I wish I could get a refund and I wish GOG.com had better racing games.
