Absolute classic
It was a great game when it came out and it still holds up today. Planning to use it at an office LAN-party because it runs on anything!

Old but Gold covered in rust!
This is how FlatOut is meant to be played! Nitro is easier to gain by jumping and crashing into objects. Unlike in FlatOut 1, hitting a fence or cone does not stop you in your tracks so it's beneficial and more entertaining to play this demolition derby as it's intended. Computer drivers having faces and names now led me to identify leading racers and kill them, which led me to developing more of a personal story and rivalry with Jack, Sofia and Jason. And thankfully and most importantly, you aren't launched as easily. I crashed into a tree at 100 km/h sideways and didn't launch, I could recover and catch first place despite that shortcoming, and when I do have to reset the game does it on the go instead of dead stop, so the game's flow is so, so, so, so much better!

Highly Recommended
I used to play this all the time a couple years after its release. This is probably my favorite racing game I've ever played... The physics are fun, car handling feels good, and it's just a blast to play. I was pleasantly surprised when I started playing again and found out that yes of course my modern gaming computer can run the graphics settings wide open, more importantly the graphics still looks pretty darn good for a 10 year old game. If you like racing, car crashes, and explosions you can't go wrong with this game. Aside from the races there are some special events unlocked along the way to break it up a little. Actual demolition derbies, a figure 8 track, and various silly mini-games that involve ejecting the driver out of your car at a high speed should hold your attention for a while.

Hilarious fun! Highly recommended.
I enjoyed this game very much. It installed and played with no problems on LinuxMint 18.1 Cinnamon 64bit on older hardware, specifically, AMD Phenom II X6 1055T CPU, Nvidia GeForce GTX 750, and 16GB of RAM. The only technical issues I've had with it was once being unable to exit the game, sometimes with certain races you lose the engine noise of the cars, and you don't have enough time to read the hints while the race is loading. Otherwise it plays flawlessly. It's a really fun game with lots of re-playability in it. Think Mario Kart for adults. It like demolition racing. You have to finish races while trying to smash into your opponents. It has nutty side events that can either be demolition derbies which are crazy fun, and events where you have to launch your driver through the front windshield which is not as much fun. It's really a good time and has made me laugh way more than once. I would though recommend using a controller that has a slider to control the accelerator. I've been using my preference which is the keyboard, but it limits what I can drive effectively and well. As the accelerator is either full on or off. Cars with lots of power and acceleration just end up spinning out and being uncontrollable. The game does appear to have multi-player capability either locally on one screen or with other computers via LAN or Internet, but I have not tried it. Should be a fun game to play with friends this way.
