Fight’N Rage is a brand new old-school side-scroller beat’em up. Inspired by the classics from the “golden age”, and with an art style that mimics the aesthetic from the 90's arcade gems, this game pays homage to all classic gameplay features that makes this genre one of the best from its time!

Details

Genre: Classic 2D side-scroller beat’em up / brawler.
Number of players: From one up to three players local co-op.
Available languages: English and Spanish.

Features

  • A lot of Combinations: Alternative paths, cutscenes and endings that can change based on the selected characters and your own decisions!
  • Fast and intense single-session gameplay: Each possible route in the arcade mode can be finished in less than one hour! (at least if you have mastered it.)
  • Explosive Combo System: Characters are capable of performing several skillful juggle-based combos that can make your enemies blow up into pieces!
  • Simplified Controls: Using only three buttons (attack, jump and special attack), you will be able to combine lots of movements in order to perform amazing combos!
  • Easy to Play, Hard to Master: Difficulty is not about bad controls or unfair rules… it is about mastering your character’s moves and dealing with tough enemies!
  • Local co-op mode: Up to 3 players with optional friendly fire (which is even more challenging!).
  • Custom Display Modes: Display settings includes optional CRT feels, scanlines and various color styles and more!
  • Lots of Unlockables: Earn in-game coins with your scores and get extra content like character’s costumes, extra difficulty settings, more gameplay speeds, new game modes, new characters to use on these modes and much more!
  • Play as Enemies: More than 20 unlockable characters to play in the extra modes!
  • Training Mode: You can practice a lot of techniques and combos while earning new belts! Are you good enough to get the Black Belt?
  • Different Weapons: Each protagonist handles them in their own way.
  • Speedrun Timer: An exclusive in-game gadget compares current stage times against your best ones! (Of course, the cutscene time does not count, in order to let your fingers take a break… believe me, you will need that.)
  • Fully Skippable Cutscenes: All cutscenes can be skipped or fast-forwarded in order to provide an (even more) intense gameplay.
  • Fair Score Rules: There’s no easy way to increment your score while playing… the score is directly related to your skills.
  • VS Mode: Perfect to play one vs one battles against another player or the CPU, or simply watch CPU vs CPU battles.
  • Parry System: A parry system lets you take the advantage even in the most dangerous situations!
  • Real challenges: It is all about how good you are at the game, not about an “exp” system or other RPG elements that reward your patience. The full moveset of every character is available from the start, so, you do not have to worry about leveling-up anything except your own skills as player!
  • Additional Insane Difficulties: Near impossible extra challenges for pro-gamers (which are not mandatory to unlock all game content).
  • Extremely Polished Gameplay: The playability is focused on fully responsive controls and intuitive commands. The characters can cancel normal attacks into special attacks, release themselves from enemy grabs and perform several chain movements. You will feel the power of controlling a character that perfectly responds to your actions!

Story

In a far future, Earth was devastated by mutants who took control after a worldwide catastrophic event known as “the big pulse”, a global scale electromagnetic pulse that put an end to all electronic technology on the planet. Humans are now enslaved by mutants led by “The Boss” in a world ruled by “the law of the jungle”.
However, not everything is lost… two humans and a mutant rebel are willing to fight in order to stop this madness. Will they be strong enough? Well... that's up to you!

Main Characters

Gal: A girl who escaped from traders of humans. She’s an expert in her own kick-boxing-derived martial art. While her attacks don’t have a long reach, her speed and agility have no equal and her technique and endurance are pretty good too. She is capable of avoiding almost every attack, an ability that comes in handy when facing multiple foes.

Ricardo: A minotaur human-rights activist and a powerful wrestler. He’s not very fast and his technique isn’t as good as his comrades’, but he has a pretty long reach, and his power and endurance are amazing. He’s capable of destroying any enemy in record time!

F. Norris: A runaway ninja whose past is a mystery. He’s the one who mastered the ninjutsu style known as “the forbidden technique”. While he might be pretty fragile compared to Gal or Ricardo, he has a great combination of reach, power and speed, plus an amazing technique that (when mastered) can take control of any situation.

Good brawling, limited replayability

I can appreciate the depth of the combat system here -- goes beyond what I'm used to in side scrolling brawlers. Also surprising and fun is the branching path system -- if you turn and run from the start, there is a runaway storyline. The core gameplay is pretty fun and you can add a couple of buddies to play with you. That said, there are some noteworthy and largely unforgivable omissions that are pretty disappointing: -No drop-in/drop-out play. I started a game with two other people and one had to leave part way through. There was no option for that one player to exit the game, so we had to either quit and lose our coins, or have someone do double duty. Players can't join in the middle of a game either. It is nice that it allows resuming a previous session if you start with the same character/difficulty. Then again, the reason you probably quit was because of the insane difficulty spikes toward the end. -Difficulty spikes. Everything seemed to be ramping up pretty steadily until the raft. Everything after that is brutal -- enemies are suddenly much stronger and harder to take down, have more throw-counters and appear in far greater numbers per group. I've been playing the game off and on all day and have made it to the end boss on Normal, but cannot for the life of me come close to beating him. On Normal. There are people who want a crazy challenge -- save that for Hard mode. You can unlock an Easy mode, but it seems almost boringly easy in the opening stretch. -Bonus unlockables do virtually nothing to extend the life of the game. There are only three main characters. You can spend in-game coins you earn by playing to unlock other characters, but they are painfully simple and are only playable in 1v1 Battle Mode, not the Story/Arcade mode. Castle Crashers set this standard for me years ago, so if I'm going to unlock characters, I want them to be worth unlocking. The rest is outfits and "tips" etc. Set your expectations accordingly.

Great new 'oldschool' beat 'em up

This is actually a great nod back to old school gaming and is equally hard to the extent you'd wish you had access a trainer from time to time. The graphics are, just like the game play, arcade and is rewarding if you invest some time in it, but don't expect an easy ride. I love it though and that means graphic, sound and game progress as they really makes up a whole. The fact that you can adjust the game to your level of play easy-hard adds to it :)

The Beatem up Mastered!

This is perhaps the best Beatem up made in the last 20 years. Fluid controls, beautiful animation and Sprite work, an amazing soundtrack, and a ton of replay value. Plus, the 80s inspired art style mixed with an anime edge and solid enemy and boss variety makes it a blast to play. I sunk 30 plus hours into the steam version and I'm still not done. Worth the price. Also the music is a standout feature, with a large variety of tracks. Make sure to check out the composers work.

Amazing homage to 90's arcade games

This game is amazing. It has a funny art style with an effect to more or less replicate an arcade screen, which is really cool and original. The combo system is great. I have only used Ricardo (the muscle one) by now, and though he is by far the one who has less movements, he can still create pretty long combos. So I can't wait to use the other ones to start experimenting. It seems here, many people are complaining about difficulty, which I can't understand because this games where extremely difficult to begin with, as they were designed to devour our coins. And despite admiting it is difficult, it is not impossible. On my third run I have already completed the game with NO CONTINUES (you can check my achievements as a proof of that). And I could only achieve this by doing long combos even with the powerhouse character, and knowing the moment to strike. So please, all that complains about difficulty or no combos, they are BS. The OST is really good aswell, going smoothly with the action that this game provides. The SFX are also great, makes you feeling you are obliterating your enemies, with strong noises that actually seems you are breaking bones (which you can actually do in the game) Replayability, there are tons of it. As you get coins playing the story, you can buy more and more stuff, becoming usable for your future games. The most importantes ones, by far, new game modes and new characters to use in most of the modes you unlock. Another point of replayability, is that there are quite a few options to chose your path, at different points in the campaign. Damn, with Ricardo, you start the game and instead of fighting, you can SCAPE, letting the other mutants massacre the humans you were suposed to defend. There is even one moment (so far the only one I know), which you have to do something specific to save a woman that is being held prisoner by a boss. To finish, there are some people complaining about sexual stuff. I don't even look at those. I came to play

Fun overall, but can get frustrating

It's fun, colorful, and the combo system is very good, but life regen items are too scarce and misplaced for me. This completely ruins the later stages where you just feel overwhelmed by enemies and need to redo a couple of sections over and over again. It feels more like making a perfect run than actually going through a harder stage, for me this is a game-breaker. In later stages I found also very difficult to find weapons, even tho I don't really used these at all. I hope they fix this flaw regarding the items. I didn't check if there's also a more "classic" retro-sounding soundtrack as a bonus (Final Fight anybody?), but personally I would prefer that for a retro-style game like this.
