Repeatitive, tedious, and infuriating.

The controls are good, the graphics are wonderful and the environment is enchanting. Unfortunately, the gameplay is monotonous combat punctuated by infuriating platform challenges. I spent 60 minutes in this section where you dodge bullets and timed spikes. The bullets are one-hit kills, if you get hit, you are warped back to the last save point. Even though it only takes you 20 tries to figure out the challenge, it takes you three minutes to get back to where you can try again. Once I got through all that BS. I was confronted with the same challenge, but this time, each attempt requires a consumable that only lasts for maybe 30 seconds and can only be purchased from a merchant at the start of the game. So I quit. I fully expect this game to be an episode of Angry Video Game Nerd.

I am so sorry...

Am sorry... truly sorry... i apreciate the love in this game, but boredom finally won :( Repetitive, it wont tell you anything about where to go... not even a little clue...nothing... you can be hours and hours going around, walking in circles and nothing. The inventory system is too basic, and to be fair, i didn't try more for today... perhaps there is more ahead and a game should encourage the player to cotinue but the dear little robot just doesn't make it. Buy it only if you are an ultra fan of platformers... otherwise, just let it go.

Not worth the price.

This games really cute, with a really unique art style. I desperately wanted to like it. But unfortunately, the controls are just not good enough for a platformer like this. You think you can make a jump, only to have your char's model completely clear a platform (so it looks like you should make it) but fall through. You fall off platforms easy, and slide a bit. Modern platformer/metroidvanias should have absolutely perfect controls - its what makes or breaks them. Other issues - there's absolutely no in game tutorial except for very rarely on picking up an item. I found what I think is a save point, but I'm not sure if I used it properly - I got no indication either way. Other people have found the game repetative, and I did too. After about 15 minutes I was already sick of the annoying controls, climbing around, and killing random enemies for loot. Nothing drew me in besides the art. And if it was that bad after such asshort play, I cant imagine it would get any better. Oh, also, the "uh-uh" sound when doing something like jumping near a ladder got to me. It'd be ok for $5 USD. But at $16.99 iut needed way more polish. Its a shame, because the art style is amazing. But unfortunately the cute story and art is all its got going for it.

I Don't Get All The Hate

I was actually really excited to play this game, because the trailer looked really good, but when I saw the ratings on GOG I began to rethink my decision to buy the game. Eventually I decided to buy it during a sale, and I am amazed that there are so many people that are giving the game such a negative rating! I've been playing it for several hours now (5+), and I am absolutely loving this game! I realize that everyone has their own opinion, but I think there are a lot of people who are going into this game with the wrong mindset. This is not a Castlevania/Metroid clone, so I would highly recommend going into this game with no predetermined expectations. While there are aspects to the game that could be improved, it is an absolutely fantastic game to play! I have yet to find it overly repetitive (as many other reviewers have stated), but I can see how that might be true as time goes on. The gamplay is very clever, and the boss battles offer a reasonable challenge to overcome. However, the upgrades in the game are a bit slow coming, but that's also what makes you want to keep playing. If you're looking for a simple, casual and fun gaming experience, I highly recommend picking up this game!

A bit too repetitive

Not a bad game, and I definitely got 16 dollars worth of fun out of it. However, as other reviewers had pointed out, it's a bit too tedious and repetitive. I feel like there wasn't a good variety of bosses, and the story line was not present in the actual game play.
