Description
FTL: Advanced Edition features:
- New systems, playable ships, alien race, weapons, drones, and more!
- A new sector with new events, written by Tom Jubert and special guest writer Chris Avellone!
- New music by Ben Prunty!

Did you ever want to reroute power to the shields, set phasers to stun, or even eject the warp core? Well, now you can! In FTL, you experience the atmosphere of running a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It's a dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge with multiple solutions. What will you do if a heavy missile barrage shuts down your shields? Reroute all power to the engines in an attempt to escape, power up additional weapons to blow your enemy out of the sky, or take the fight to them with a boarding party? This "spaceship simulation roguelike-like" allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.

FTL's complex strategic gameplay allows you to give orders to your crew, manage ship power distribution, and choose weapon targets in the heat of battle. You will encounter unique alien lifeforms and technology. You can upgrade your ship and unlock new ones with the help of six diverse alien races. Be the Captain you want: hundreds of text based encounters will force you to make tough decisions. In the randomized galaxy each play-through will feature different enemies, events, and results to your decisions. Each time you play another challenging session of FTL: Faster Than Light, it won't be quite the same.
  • Unlimited adventures in the vast depths of unpredictable space.
  • A new randomized galaxy to explore each time you start a new game.
  • Quick play sessions (from 5 to about 90 minutes) will allow you to add that spaceship commander feeling to any of your days.

Insanely good! (Hard reviewer)

NOTE: I'm a very hard reviewer. The games are usually cheap, and your time is more valuable than the money you spend in them. 3 stars from me is a good game, one more of them. 5 stars is a game which absolutely legendary. This is the first game I rate with 5 stars in GOG. I only rate games after I finish them at least once. In FTL you have under you control a ship with its crew, you must travel towards the galaxy to deliver a message. However, while you travel, while of different events can happens. You will take new weapons, new defenses, new crew members and subsystem. Every choice you do matters. Maybe you should purchase some fuel, or such nice weapon? Maybe you should focus on having a good reactor or base your strategy over your auxiliar bateries? There are a lot of different approach and strategies you can do, all of them fun and changelling. It's normal in your first hours of gameplay you see a silly game based on luck. However once you start to invest around 20-30h you will learn how to do better combos or strategies, and still you will believe you need too much luck. When you have hundreds of hours you will realize that luck have very little impact on this game, where (almost) everything is really well balanced. I purchased it originally in another online shop a couple of years ago, which provides me a Steam Key. Since then, I've played around 1000 hours to this game, and it still fresh each time I play it. And the best part is that I've only played vanilla! There are lots of Mods you can use to renew your game. There isn't any spectacular graphics or music, this is a game focused on the game play and the replay value. You will be impressed how much FTL can enjoy you with only a bunch of static screens. You will experience anger, happiness, satisfaction, and lots of emotions. Each gameplay is different. Don't miss this game. It's absolutely epic.

micro-review

This game is a masochistic combination of permadeath and randomness, but in the end you end up with a lot of fun and many short games. The game has a high degree of replayability as your ship will be shaped by random encounters at every step (also you get to unlock other ships and different ships layouts for your next games). Gaming Masterpiece

I don't give the title of "Masterpiece" very often, but FTL deserves it. I won't say much other than the fact that while this is a difficult game with a very minimalist approach, it excels in game play beyond the likes of many mainstream AAA titles. FTL requires attention, thinking, and a stable heart -- yes, it's an intense experience that makes those Star Trek battles feel a lot cooler than they look. This is the definition and standard of a space battle simulator. As far as I know, no game has done it better or will do it better for a long time to come. If there is anything else I could say it would be this: it's the only game in existence that I know of where losing 30 times in a row still makes me want to play it over and over again (I've only beaten it once). Love it and proud it's in my collection.

Lacks strategy, but still entertaining

The decisions you make when jumping faster than light from location to location and given some options to choose from are NOT real decisions but merely luck based options. There is little strategy and the problem with calling something strategical is peoples definitions differ on what the word strategy means to them. This next topic is a neutral one, each time you advance to the next location the rebel fleet is in pursuit giving you no chance to explore the entire sector. I feel as if I missed out on things but would never know as I had to jump to the next sector. The sense of urgency however keeps you quick on your feet, use as much time to explore and gain improvements to your ship before jumping faster than light to the next sector. I would not call that strategy as anyone that is able to think can accomplish it just by moving forward as the game forces you to do. Naming your crew, naming your ship, having crew members specialize in certain areas such as shields, engines, weapons, piloting, sensors and doors and also having a variety of races with their own particular special abilities, being able to choose different ships and different layouts (once you complete the required conditions) is where the game keeps me wanting to play more. I tend to favor games with this type of choice in personalizing the life forms you play along with the defensive or offensive structure you're using. The combat seems simple but still fun. When you play the game it makes you want to try out all the cool looking weapons eventually that can be attached to your ship (4 weapon slots). Upgrades to your ship include cloaking (for limited time) and you can shoot while cloaked if you upgrade. Drone upgrades that are defensive, offensive or utility based, also mind control and teleporting crew. Almost all of your ship systems can be upgraded which is important as which ones you decide to upgrade can help you progress or what you chose to upgrade at THAT time wasted resources. Buy it.
