Description
Far Cry® 2, developed by Ubisoft Montreal, takes many of the great ideas from the previous game and improves upon them, making a pulse-pounding, high-speed shooter that roars through the beautiful, if sere, environments of Central Africa. With stunning visuals and deep gameplay, this game takes everything you liked about Far Cry® and ramps it up to 11.

You are a gun for hire, trapped in a war-torn African state, stricken with malaria and forced to make deals with corrupt warlords on both sides of the conflict in order to do what it takes to take down the Jackal, a dirty arms merchant who has made your new homeland a war-torn hell.

You must identify and exploit your enemies’ weaknesses, neutralizing their superior numbers and firepower with surprise, subversion, cunning, and of course, brute force.

This is the Fortune's Edition of Far Cry® 2, which is patched up (like every GOG game) to the most recent version which includes the Fortunes Pack DLC that added three new weapons and two new vehicles to the game, as well as several new multiplayer maps.

  • One of the most interactive and destructible environments ever made for an open world game, with special attention paid to a realistic fire engine that's a pyromaniac's dream come true.
  • Fight for different rival factions as you confront the ugly truths about conflict in a poor, war-torn country.
  • Great story complemented by fantastic open world first-person gameplay!

Good but not Great

Far Cry 2 is one of those games you have fond memories of, but upon return you notice how nostalgia can color your memories. Its a good game, but can become tedious at times with its routine. A little too many patrol checkpoints and driving around to reach the goal for my tastes. However for $10 you should at least get 10 hours out of it. Of the simplest concerns the game does function. No problems for me on Windows 7 64 bit, though you can never know for sure until you test it on your own system. However it would appear, (this I did not know) that a Ubisoft online account is necessary for online play. Upon purchase a cd key was given for online access. In conclusion if you are a die-hard fan, or Far Cry 2 was amongst your favorite games of all time... pick it up. Otherwise its probably smart to wait for Far Cry 3.

A few things

Far cry 2 had such promiceIt had done away with the monister things from far cry 1 and was in the beautiful african bush. yet all is not well with this game.the eroblmes are detailed below. 1) LOCATION: Although the change in location is good in theory the bush al looks the same you ofton get shot at from enemies you cant see and die before ou locate where the shots are commeing from. 2:THE GUNS It's not so much how the guns feel they actually feel pretty good. But ubisoft decided they would go for hyper relisim with how the guns work thus they ofton lock up meaning you have a gun which won't fire in the middle of a fire fight.not good. 3:MALERIA This was the feature that really annoyed me and why i stoped playing in the end you get infected by the desise at some point near the start of the game. It means you must have a store of tablets at all times in case you have an attack which happens frequentlythis is un nessery and spoils the game. are there any good points why yes. The fire effects are som of the best I've seen really realistic. At some point you can get allies these will turn up in a battle when it seems like you are going to die and will help you in some way be it dragging you to gover giveing you some health or ammo or something. Game play for all the problmes the game play is good if you can find enemies before they kill you and the missions are pretty varied with lost of side missions so should you get this game well sadely the answer is no the problems with this game make it just about meadiocre but this by no means reflects on far cry 1 or the up comeing 3. 1 i know is very good even with the monisters it looks a bit dated but is still fun and 3 looks very very good. It's a real shame that this game is how it is because the core is so good it's just the problmes that let it down.

Love/Hate

This game is both awesome and boring as hell. I love how open world the game is, where unlike most FPS, I can attack from the back, sides, or whichever way I want to. But on the same hold, it got boring very fast for me, doing the same things over and over. I only got to the second part/map once. I didnt die much at all, I could very easily kill anyone following me or clearing out a camp. But knowing I would have to kill everything so many times over. It broke me. But it does add nice things to it, over number one, like the buddy system, help them out/do jobs for them, they help you out and your "hideout" is updraded.

Boring

What sounded like first preson GTA in the Savannah turned out to not work well. There was a horrible glitch which made gras which is everywhere have white edges when playing on Windows 7. Tried to play it on Linux with wine and surprise: no visual glitches. Usually it is the other way round. Graphics and sounds of the weapons are convincing. However the gameplay is really horrible. You get not attached at all to the story. Enemies are not really a challenge, but more annoying as they pop-up randomly while you get out of save house or try to find a new mission. Every scenery looks identical so I found myself driving with the full map enabled all the time. Features like grabbing diamonds or upgrading weapons seem like rushed ways to somehow motivate the player to get through this repetitive mess. It did not work for me. Uninstalled it immediately. Should have tried a demo first instead of wasting my money here.

A Stunningly Beautiful Polished Turd

I'm gonna keep this as short as possible since my other review was too long for GOG so I will try to hit everything you should know about the game quickly. Controls: No melee attack, any key designated as the action/use command other than the "E" key will cause a glitch and you will not be able to let go of tripod based machine guns......ever, you can't run and strafe at the same time, the map system is a complete abomination with no ability to select a way point. Graphics: Amazing Sound: Guns sound amazing, music sucks Gameplay: Frustrating, respawning enemies that you can't ignore because they will chase you down, no stealth due to no melee attack or silenced weapons, constantly having to repair your vehicle, guns jam constantly, Malaria, every objective and side job is "kill that guy", the only thing you collect is diamonds to buy stuff, driving doesn't feel like driving. Bottom line, don't buy this game. Buy Far Cry, Far Cry 3, and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Buy this game only if you like to look at pretty graphics and destructible and flammable environments.
