Average overhyped game.
I know this will get downvoted, that's fine. If you love the game, more power to you! I've played Fallout 4, 3 and now New Vegas. (unmodded!) New Vegas is infuriating. Difficulty is not even close to being balanced on Very Hard. Weapon descriptions and VATS lies to you about how much damage you will do. "Dungeon" layouts can be confusing and very reliant on you getting the 1 item from the 1 container and you'll end up backtracking. The "Local Map" is a joke. The story was pretty decent, but I am very dissapointed in how lackluster it is (not to mention it ends your playthrough...) after hearing so much insane praise for it. It was ok. The boss fight at the "end of the road" was an absolute joke. Enemies will just spawn in front of you if you try to use any tactics. I still like the game, but Fallout 3 and 4 both were far better in these regards. Bethesda gets a lot of flak sometimes, but they know how to make a fun GAME with decent or passable story. New Vegas is a frustrating game with decent story. Guess we know what I value more. (Update 2025, sorta a rant) This is the problem with liking something so much that you push away or mock people who have issues or differing opinions. Game Cults. I like New Vegas, but the hype for it left me disappointed after playing it. Then, the absolute gatekeeping mega-fans do is so off-putting most people don't want to voice their opinion because arguing about these games is a waste of time with these people. You can't experience my life and have my opinions, as I can't yours. It's a simple understanding if you're not in a fan cult. New Vegas is a good game, that has fun parts of it that can be broken and ways you can complete things that are more in depth than Fallout 3 and especially Fallout 4. But Fallout 3 is a more direct experience and story that feels more cohesive and purposeful (so does 4, but less) whereas New Vegas feels like a game that was built in sections and those sections sometimes don't match up very well, and they clearly didn't have enough time (or possibly skill) to make a complete and fair experience (without using exploits). Obsidian's new games have proven the point that they were never the magical good developers everyone loves to say they could have been. They did good work with the horrible hand they were dealt with New Vegas (poetically fitting), but they weren't the underdog that just needed a chance. Their new games are uninspired and typical. This is my outsider view as I haven't played them (most aren't drm free yet) but be honest. Your darling company got a chance... and they're just good, not great. Keep watching your sh|tty youtube essays and gobble up every empty epithet they spout as sustenance for your empty soul you husk of a social media addicted empty corporate vessel. Or wake up and think for yourself.
