Not a true sequel

If you have played fallout and fallout 2, too bad. You are probably already spoiled with fantastic legends and a lot of interesting NPC interactions. The Fallout 3 lacks all of that and are more focused on exploding body parts and running around with big weapons. No intriguing side quest that you have to indulge in just because you want to experience the outcome. In Fallout 3 you enter a building and some soldiers start to shoot at you. After a while I just left the building, tired of killing without a cause or some clue of why they were so hostile. No information could be found on what they were doing there, or a reason why I should care cleaning out this particular building. Boring, to say the least. NPC interaction lacks all the charm of the two previous games. I spend, for example, a lot of time humouring the ghoul Harold, just to get everything about his past. So what do they do in Fallout 3; they turn him into a tree — sigh… It is not a bad game as such, just not a true sequel to the Fallout 1 & 2.

An almost worthy successor.

The month that Fallout 3 dropped, I bought a secondhand collector's edition for 360 which included a lunchbox, bobblehead, artbook and the game itself. Sold the game, minus the extras, and didn't play it until years later when my brother bought a bundle that included everything except the Mothership Zeta DLC. Platinum'd it (except for the Mothership Zeta DLC) the first week that I started playing. As controversial as this may sound, the atmosphere in this game, for me, is more of a sequel to Fallout 1 than Fallout 2 is. It's dreary, it's bleak, it's quintessentially postapocalyptic. Like Fallout 1 was. I feel like Fallout 3 did a better job of representing the genre than Fallout 2 did, although I still prefer Fallout 2 over 3 because I am not a fan of Bethesda's reimagining of the series nor their other games (besides Daggerfall, for the sake of nostalgia). I would've preferred a Fallout 3 made by Black Isle/Interplay, provided it wasn't like Fallout Tactics (which is a good game for what it is), but I am still content with what Bethesda managed to do. Fallout 1 and 2 are still my favorites--they always will be--but Fallout 3 is certainly worth playing if you haven't already.

Can't get it to run without crashing

I heard how bad the steam version was so I checked it out on GOG, seeing all the positive reviews got my hopes up that I'd soon be playing my favorite Fall Out game again. So far everything I've tried has failed, the game crashes on launch and even through endless forums and youtube videos the game still crashes. I don't know what the problem is. All I see is it's apparently causing a problem with the windows live gaming service. The game in unplayable and I know for sure my PC is not the problem. I will keep looking for a solution but it does suck to see GOG have a game on their website that is seemingly unplayable.

Fun Combat Open World Game

That title isn't spambait; there is no Obsidian's Fallout writing to be had here. There is a main quest where you help your dad (played by Liam Neeson) achieve his dreams of drinkable water. It's a noble quest, but you are specifically "Dad's kid" by every story-related NPC. No matter what you do, word gets around, and the local radio DJ just *knows* you're looking for daddy when you barge into his office. Bethesda is great at making mini experiences spread across an open world, where each little town has their own arc and even dungeons have bits of stories. They won't win any awards on their own, but there's something special about traversing the plains and finding a contained storybook in each of them, so to speak. However, the dialogue choices are very black-and-white - either you are a deity or a supervillain. If you wanted an actual immersive Role-Playing Game by Bethesda go play Daggerfall (or its Unity fan-version). +1 star though because the voice actress in this game is less meek than in New Vegas. Seriously, it's so grating to hear a Level 1 character sound of getting hurt when you're Level 30. (It's possible to mod over the voice files from this game to that game though) Combat is super jank and potentially more repetitive than New Vegas, but the weapon condition/repairing mechanic ensures you'll often be using weapons that you pick up. (NV has less overworld combat, more forgiving repair system & even portable repair kits). Almost forgot, get an auto-save manager mod. This game does not have good autosave. Also if you hate green tint check out Clarity.
