the heights of stupidity

That people rate it at five stars is a travesty - they must enjoy the abysmal writing and lackluster story and come into this world to satisfy the need to explore it and shoot some teddy bears from their junk launchers. Don't get me wrong, I played and finished this game when it released and wandering the wastes can be an OK experience but cringe level gets off the charts more often then not. I would award a star or two for atmospheric and hard to navigate city ruins and music but other dev choices (post-apocalyptic vampires, Little Lamplight, DLC Operation Anchorage - hey, we can convert this game into a bad FPS, check it out, oh and enjoy a power armour even at the start of your game (same as F4); no logic nor reason whatsoever: everybody lives in shacks as if years haven't passed since the apocalypse, atomic explosions create a few seconds of radiation wheras water is irradiated forever; few quests and most of them mortifingly boring and stupid). To call this game Fallout is a slap to the face of all the fans of 1, 2 and even Tactics. Compare it with New Vegas and you will see how an RPG should be designed and written. Sadly people buy into this trend of dumbed down RPGs with SIMS-like Fallout 4 and a disaster of a game of Fallout 76. Luckily we have some oldies to play which are way better - and many of them done by the infamous Bethesda.

Don't buy through GOG

First purchase through them. Trash. Game doesn't work so I refund, no big deal. "You've played this game, can't refund" I played it for 6 minutes. Literally 6 minutes. That 6 minutes is me trying to figure out if it works. Nice. Scam.

Large, mostly empty, and boring world.

People who like this game often rave about how they love to explore the large "open world." But are we really getting more content? It seems more like they took a typical amount of game content and then spread it out over a larger area, reducing the density of content and making players waste time running across large mostly-empty areas to find it (what Fallout 3 players call "exploration"). While running across these vast distances between towns (which themselves are not very interesting) in the mostly-empty "wasteland," you encounter the same types of enemies over and over again. Sure, you can fast-travel, but only after arriving in a town once previously. It's monotonous, repetitive, and boring. And the story (what story?) is also bad. The game almost feels like it's an open world full of side-quests. If you were hoping to find some epic story like in the original three Mass Effect RPGs, you are going to be very disappointed. KOTOR 1, KOTOR 2, or Mass Effect 1-3 were much better.

Dissection sandbox vs story driven RPG

Having played F1 and F2 I was shocked that the gameplay is made to be an FPS for that is supposed to impress with possibilities of smashing enemies skulls resulting with distinct components of central nervous system flying around. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLJ1gyIzg78

Beaten by time

I've heard many good things about F3 and New Vegas... After playing both for a few hours I regret every second I wasted. The gameplay and graphics of both are extremely outdated, and not even mods can save them. I don't recommend. The quest are nice, but in a world that we have The Witcher 3 and Divinity OS2, just quests are not enough.
