Game should be checked out by every student who wants to become engineer. It shows whether you like problem solving or you'll hate your job. 10/10

To join public multiplayer servers, a factorio.com account is needed, which then tells you to buy the game (again) or link it to a Steam account that owns the game. There is no such option for GOG. Without this you can't join public multiplayer servers and you won't get in-game updates. I'm on GNU/Linux and the version available for download is outdated. The newest version is currently only available for Windows. This means GOG users can't play on public servers, so you will get a worse game than anyone else. You will also not get updates on time. What a scam!

You know how you play Minecraft for a while and you start getting bored of spiders on your roof so you build a lava moat with a drawbridge? And you go really into detail with the drawbridge so it's got a XOR switch? And you wish you could do more but redstone is just such a pain to work with? Well, Factorio is for you! Say goodbye to your free time, you will literally dream of this game for a week after playing and struggle to focus on anything else. It's the sort of game you start playing after lunch and when you check your watch a few minutes later it's 4am. I must have eight or nine standard games under my belt now, a speed run will take maybe 7-8 hours for most and the average standard game is probably 40 hours. There are so many ways to play and each will feel like a different game. Hundreds of hours in, when you finally master the game and start getting bored, there are several "overhaul" mods by the community that force you to totally redesign everything you've done. That nice tidy column you've built? It now needs to be ten times the width and five times as long. Hope you had fun unloading two ores, there's now twelve. You'll be pulling your hair out all over again. A common mistake is assuming that Factorio is a simple game. The grungy 2D graphics and primitive grid placement are deceptive, anything you set up in this game is processing all the time. Unlike Minecraft, there is no zone around the player outside of which time stops. Tens of thousands of items being carted around on belts, thousands of inserters feeding thousands of machines, thousands of nasty bugs gnawing on your walls, all updating thirty times a second, and they somehow managed to get multiplayer working and connect over 400 players to a single game and keep it playable. There are no words for how incredible the code is behind this game and the devs are to be commended. Why are you still reading this? Just buy the damn game already =D

I really love this game! The only downside is that I'm going to have to watch a youtube video to understand some of the more complex stuff. But oh boy is it addicting.

I'm about 80 hours into Factorio and I still can't stop playing. Fair warning: this game will absolutely destroy your sleep schedule lol. You start off just placing down a few miners and furnaces, and the next thing you know it's 3 AM and you're redesigning your entire train network for the fifth time because you SWEAR you can make it more efficient. The game starts pretty simple - crash land on an alien planet, gather resources, build stuff. But man, it slowly sucks you in. There's always one more thing to optimize or expand. Your factory starts as this cute little operation making basic stuff, and before you know it you've got this massive sprawling base with conveyor belts everywhere. The feeling when you finally get a complex production line working perfectly is just chef's kiss. The best part is there's no "right" way to play. Want to build everything super organized and efficient? Go for it. Prefer to have a chaotic spaghetti mess of belts that somehow works? That's cool too. Just be ready for the bugs (alien creatures, not game bugs - the game is actually super polished) to come knocking when your pollution gets too high. Only real downside? You'll find yourself thinking about factory layouts while trying to fall asleep. Worth it though. 8.5/10 - Would lose another 100 hours of my life to this game.
