Factorio is a game in which you build and maintain factories. You will be mining resources, researching technologies, building infrastructure, automating production and fighting enemies. In the beginning you will find yourself chopping trees, mining ores and crafting mechanical arms and transport belts by hand, but in short time you can become an industrial powerhouse, with huge solar fields, oil refining and cracking, manufacture and deployment of construction and logistic robots, all for your resource needs. However this heavy exploitation of the planet's resources does not sit nicely with the locals, so you will have to be prepared to defend yourself and your machine empire.
Join forces with other players in cooperative Multiplayer, create huge factories, collaborate and delegate tasks between you and your friends. Add mods to increase your enjoyment, from small tweak and helper mods to complete game overhauls, Factorio's ground-up Modding support has allowed content creators from around the world to design interesting and innovative features. While the core gameplay is in the form of the freeplay scenario, there are a range of interesting challenges in the form of the Scenario pack, available as free DLC. If you don't find any maps or scenarios you enjoy, you can create your own with the in-game Map Editor, place down entities, enemies, and terrain in any way you like, and even add your own custom script to make for interesting gameplay.
Note: This game may require additional serial key for multiplayer mode. In case it is not automatically generated in your GOG.com library (open it via website → select the game → More → Serial Keys), please reach out to our Support team.
Incredibly addictive game. There's always something more to build, just another process to optimise or new technology to implement. Very hard to put down.
At the moment the game is up-to-date on GOG. For multiplayer and other features you need to register the game at the company homepage. Not a big deal in my opinion, but your mileage may differ.
So factorio is a game about automation.
TRY THE DEMO from the official site!!!
I'm not normally into these kinds of games, i thought... but after trying the demo on the official site, i had to get this. i bought it without even thinking about the price. So far i've played it for over 200 hours within just a few months. the most recent update to the game (.15) added another material to be gathered (uranium) and updated much of the graphics (not all of it yet though! it's coming)
the game is pretty excellent if you like to build, optimize, plan and see what a smart design you can come up with. you can choose to focus on a smaller factory/base, where you are very effecient about how you place your buildings, so you have a smaller area to defend from the aliens. A large factory would be harder to defend, obviously, since you can only be in one place at a time. There are some things you can do to help you though.
Anyways, it's kinda hard to explain all your options in the game, but i really suggest you try out the free demo from factorios own site. there's also a decent forum.
The game also supports modding which is great. And there are many good mods, some small, some more comprehensive. personally im more into the "quality of life" mods, but there are mods that make the game harder or easier.

also, there are trains.
