Factorio is a game in which you build and maintain factories. You will be mining resources, researching technologies, building infrastructure, automating production and fighting enemies. In the beginning you will find yourself chopping trees, mining ores and crafting mechanical arms and transport belts by hand, but in short time you can become an industrial powerhouse, with huge solar fields, oil refining and cracking, manufacture and deployment of construction and logistic robots, all for your resource needs. However this heavy exploitation of the planet's resources does not sit nicely with the locals, so you will have to be prepared to defend yourself and your machine empire.
Join forces with other players in cooperative Multiplayer, create huge factories, collaborate and delegate tasks between you and your friends. Add mods to increase your enjoyment, from small tweak and helper mods to complete game overhauls, Factorio's ground-up Modding support has allowed content creators from around the world to design interesting and innovative features. While the core gameplay is in the form of the freeplay scenario, there are a range of interesting challenges in the form of the Scenario pack, available as free DLC. If you don't find any maps or scenarios you enjoy, you can create your own with the in-game Map Editor, place down entities, enemies, and terrain in any way you like, and even add your own custom script to make for interesting gameplay.
Note: This game may require additional serial key for multiplayer mode. In case it is not automatically generated in your GOG.com library (open it via website → select the game → More → Serial Keys), please reach out to our Support team.
This game is everything you could ever want, it scratches that itch, it just keeps on giving you more and more to plan, do and expand on, all at your own pace and never overwhelming (past your first 20 hours) thank you DoshDoshington
After over 200 hours of gameplay i can clearly say that this is one of the best games of its genre out there. The best part is, that it is not even finished and is getting constant updates every few weeks. Also the developers push out updates about the project in text-form every (!!!!) Friday.
I'll now get back to work... i mean keep playing this masterpiece :)
After 100hrs I must write this quick review.
Factorio is one of my Top-favorite games, and i am sure i will reach the 200hrs+ some day.
The game is still under development but it's full playable and i haven't experienced any bugs yet.
What makes the game so great are many things:
First of all the building and planning of your factories, defending them, building a defense network, optimizing the production, using circuit networks for programming. You need more resources or your mines will be depleted soon. Search for untapped resources, destroy enemy bases, secure the resources, build mines, defend them, build forward operating bases with radars to scan deep into the territory. Use trains to transport resources and stuff all over the base. Build artillery, tanks, armored jeeps to fight enemies and their bases. Use robot networks to build, repair and transport things. Launch satellites into an orbit and gain science, prestige and win the game, of course you can carry on after that, and pretty sure you will....
And don’t forget to keep your powerplants operating, use coal or clean solar power, or research nuclear power.... Care about the pollution of your base to not attract too many enemies, most important for forward operating mines.
And finally play with your friends or other people in LAN or on servers, host your own ones or use public ones....
This game has sooooo much to offer, it's simply fantastic and the mix of researching, planning building, defending and expanding keeps it interesting.
Build a rocket to escape the planet on which you crashed.... Silly concept.
But, for this rocket to be built you have to go through a long and complex road of automatization. And here Factorio shine ! the possibilities are awesome ! Some are obvious, some need devious, clever way of thinking but the possibilities are limitless !
Not an easy game to be sure. It will challenge your sense of organization, you will learn that Murphy's law is not a vain word and you will even, at times, be discouraged from the complexity.... especially when you will need something you did not forsee and need to rebuild half your factory... But be assured it's fair (you do not loose anything save for time when rebuilding) and rewarding : the launch of your first rocket will be a great moment for you !
That is Factorio : a clever game where you have to carefully think, plan, test patterns, balance ressources and items you craft... Understand what work and what does not work on a (very) large scale.... A true gem !
Special note for mods : the game is fully moddable and some change drastically the scope of the game, making it challenging again even for the most season players out there !
...I was low on plastic and needed more oil. So I had to extend my train network. And as I had to touch it for that, I wanted to give it that overhaul I had planned anyway. Now I have to really extend my logstic network, because who wants to build a new train network by hand?! Thats why I need more plastic and have to rebuild my train network by hand!
