Description
Factorio is a game in which you build and maintain factories. You will be mining resources, researching technologies, building infrastructure, automating production and fighting enemies. In the beginning you will find yourself chopping trees, mining ores and crafting mechanical arms and transport belts by hand, but in short time you can become an industrial powerhouse, with huge solar fields, oil refining and cracking, manufacture and deployment of construction and logistic robots, all for your resource needs. However this heavy exploitation of the planet's resources does not sit nicely with the locals, so you will have to be prepared to defend yourself and your machine empire.

Join forces with other players in cooperative Multiplayer, create huge factories, collaborate and delegate tasks between you and your friends. Add mods to increase your enjoyment, from small tweak and helper mods to complete game overhauls, Factorio's ground-up Modding support has allowed content creators from around the world to design interesting and innovative features. While the core gameplay is in the form of the freeplay scenario, there are a range of interesting challenges in the form of the Scenario pack, available as free DLC. If you don't find any maps or scenarios you enjoy, you can create your own with the in-game Map Editor, place down entities, enemies, and terrain in any way you like, and even add your own custom script to make for interesting gameplay.

Note: This game may require additional serial key for multiplayer mode. In case it is not automatically generated in your GOG.com library (open it via website → select the game → More → Serial Keys), please reach out to our Support team.

Maybe the greatest game of all time...?

NOTE: I do not own this game on GOG.com yet, my review is based on the Steam version. So you saw the trailer of this game here in the Store page and still want to know what this game is all about. Factorio is a game where you create contraptions to automatically process resources into refined resources, just so you can process these into other things, rinse and repeat. You start with creating objects by hand, soon after you start building factories and designing ways on how to process things automatically. Imagine a Robot-Buddy Supercomplex that plays a game for you, which infinitely grows larger as time goes buy, so you never run out of things to plan and to fix. I guess this game is somewhat compareable to Locomotion and the Rollercoaster Tycoon games, which are also here on GOG. So think about something like incredible Machines, but with you designing everything, while figureing out what exactly you're exactly doing in the process, so you can build a more effective factory later. So you are both Player and Designer in this game, at once, something no other game can possibly give to you. Thinking about possible effective ways to make sense of your super-structure is tons of fun. If you ever had a problem with your car, your computer or your television and felt the joy of actually figuring it out and fixing it yourself, this game does provide that feeling ALL the time. Mind you, every problem your factory is your cause, you have to figure out what you have to do in order to create an even more effective factory. There is also an action part of the game, where aliens do not like that you're plundering their planet and attack you. If Building and defending seems too stressful to you, theres a peaceful mode where you have to attack first. Mind you, this game is still in Development, and will be for quite some time. Regardless, this game provides a ton of fun. Regardless, I cannot give Factorio anything less than 5 Stars. You have to find it out yourself why.

Will eat up all your time

Amazing game, trust the other reviews. Just some notes about the DRM for those who got scared by some reviews. The good - There is a absolutely no DRM for the single player. - There is a LAN/WAN mode with absolutely no DRM (dedicated servers included). The bad - There is DRM to access the mod portal, you need a Wube account that is linked to your Gog account. Once you download the mods they are completely DRM-free and can be redistributed (depending on their license). - There is DRM on most multiplayer servers, they require a Wube-Account to join. Minecraft style. - The auto-update feature and auto mod downloader require a Wube-Account. This is entirely optional, just a quality-of-life service. In my opinion, a DRM-free LAN / private dedicated server mode is absolutely amazing! Which modern games give you that!?

No need for an account.

As I understand, the devs want their game to be platform agnostic. That is why the mod "workshop" is integrated in the game, and why you can, if you want, create an in-game account in order to download the "unstable" releases. It is totally optional to do so. You can instead activate the GOG beta channel for the game and voilà! The updates are now delivered directly by GOG, without the need for another account. As for the game itself, I do not have a lot to add to what has already been said. It's fantastic and a work of love. It gets me back to Simcity 2000, but it's also so much more. I think the only games I have ever played that are close to this experience is Lego or Meccano or Construx, and the many, many hours I spend as a kid building things and trying to get my designs so my car/spaceship/castle would be right as I wanted them to be. It will get you the Tetris Syndrome in no time, tough, and be carefull to remember to feed your dog.

Over 20 hrs on the demo made me buy the game. 350 hrs later Still playing. Over 110 hrs on my latest game. If you like micro management RTS then this is for you. I highly recommend the demo at least. Early access, yes. But I have not come across a single bug, delay in performance or a doubt that this was the best money I have spent on a game in quite a long time.

Finally on GOG!

In the last four years this is the only game, and I mean the only game, I've spent more than 500 hours playing. And that despite the fact that some of the balancing isn't right yet and there is a lack of endgame content. This game is simply AMAZING! What makes this game so great for me is that is has different stages. In the beginning all work is done by yourself which is ok but gets repetetive soon. Then you start getting automation going and you let the assemblers do the basic and annoying stuff for you. Research gives you new building options and products. And while you expand your factory further and further you might enter a stage where armies of robots can do almost everything for you. It is so satisfying! The development so far has been an example of 'how you do early access right'. All Alpha versions I've played so far (and I've been playing Factorio since 2012) have been remarkably stable. This game is definitely money well spent.
