Expeditions: Conquistador

As of now one year after release this is a really good strategy game. Exploration and dialogues are fun, combat is easy to grasp, graphics and music are pleasant. Only the view of the jungle could be a bit bigger. I really would like to zoom out more. I guess it's on purpose but I don't really like it.

Rarely will I play a game twice in succession after completing it but E:C had enough on offer, multiple story choices/endings and exploring the combat system, that I immediately began a second run after the first. For the price I got over 40 hours of entertainment, I can't think of a better metric than that.

One of the most atmospheric games I have played in the last years. It's a bit wacky on the technical side of things, controls and graphics could be better, and there is no voice acting, but the gameplay and the writing is great. Most of all the game has got a very interesing scenario, and while it is not faithfull to historic events at all, it allways feels just right in a way. This is the best game about Conquistadores that I ever played, it catches everything that is interesting about that topic just great!

The gameplay of this game reminds me a bit of Jagged Alliance 2, but misses the tactical depth of JA2 and ends up beeing super boring. Battle Brothers is also a similar game, which is superior (to this game) when it comes to turn based battles with melee.

On kickstarter you learn that some of your money will fuel nothing more than a disaster. Expeditions was a complete exception to this rule. Fantastic game and good soundtrack. I'd recommend.
