A Fun Engine Test

The premise of the game is obviously the evolution of the RPG, from it's early 8-bit days to high-resolution textures and all that other fancy stuff that we have now. Though the game does offer a few dungeons and bosses throughout each evolution, it's ridiculously short and comes with a final boss who just literally seems thrown in at the last minute. It's been rather cheap in sales here lately, so I'd definitely get it if it's cheap, and you're bored with everything else. I highly recommend the sequel over this, as that's where the devs really got to work on creating something that used the evolution concept in a more story-driven manner that just plain works. You can actually finish this whole thing in an hour, so keep that it mind. Right now there are much better RPG experiences on GOG like Legend Of Heroes and Grandia II: Anniversary. But once again, if you're bored... pick it up.

Pay $10 and get $15 worth of fun

If you're looking for a game that you can pickup and play and have about Three hours of fun then this is the game for you. It is easy to learn and fun to advance through the different stages of video gaming. A great nostalgia piece. Me and my kids had a good time with this title. Other then its a little too short I think this game delivers on exactly what it tried to do. No bugs, no glitches and no problems. Also has a great soundtrack which also advances through time. Try this game and you wont be sorry.

Born to be average

This game, in a way, was designed to be not a great game. A good little game with a lot of ideas, sure! The concept is hugely original, the jokes and hints are generous, and I really think the experience wanted by the developers is successful. I give at least 3 stars for that. Sadly, the game is hardly that fun, and above all, the player is not concerned. At all. Let me explain : in a JRPG, you have a story, characters, items, techniques, hours of discovering and epicness etc. etc. Furthermore, a good RPG have its identity. What is Evoland? A pleasant experience. Here, the characters, the landscapes, the story are deliberately generic. As a wink, he is wonderful. A s a game, he fails by a few. After three hours playing Evoland, the player asks himself: what do I want to finish it? Why shouldn't I play to a real game?? Buy it 2€ for the fun, that's all!

Short but Fun

I had a blast with this game. It was clever and charming. My only real critique is that it is short, but as long as you are aware of that and get it at a price you feel justifies a quick play through, then that's not a problem. While it is pretty much just a standard RPG, it's clever nods to gaming history are what make this game worthwhile.

Average, but not that bad

It's not really perfect, but it's fun to play. Compared to other titles, the normal price tag seems a bit steep tho
