Walking Simulator or Loot Shooter?
You can learn a lot about games looking at the global rate of achievements. One out of 10 players have found the game fun enough to play more than the first two areas of the game. Buy a new ship 14%, so only 1 out of 7 players globally have gotten to a major selling part of the game. Finish 10 jobs, (takes about an hour) 12% So 2 out of 5 stars is more generous than the global stats. The Good Voice acting: I like it. This is one of the few games where I actually sit through the spoken dialogue. Graphics It has a mobile game feel to it. Personally I don't like "slick" graphics. Nevertheless the indicators are functional and for the most part you can see where things are. The OK Gunplay Most guns are not very exciting and range is more important than anything else to the point that getting range to over 2k starts to break the game. As you will probably want a beam laser (increases mining gain), which is also one of the better weapons and you'll basically have one weapon to "try-out". Encounters I've done every distress signal I came across in the first area and then never again picked one up. Areas are similar, lots is copypasta, but the puzzles aren't bad. The Bad Doing things If you play the game as a walking simulator its sort of fine. If you play it as anything else, you'll waste hours flying somewhere. Upgrades Well its +/-3 and none of the upgrades/perks are meaningful. (9 components for 0.2% shield resistance ...). This includes equipment, which basically means it is not a loot shooter and playing at level 10 is the same feel as playing @25. Except then there would be no reason to upgrade, which would make the other 4 major selling points moot. So here we are. Story Yeah, it is terrible. Lots of Deus Ex and chasing one McGuffin after the next. Caves The light doesn't work right (screen is black) and during rotation the ship doesn't stay level but rotates. So you can't make a full circle without turning things upside down, which doesn't help navigation.

1 more star, in the forseen future!
How to deny it? if it is wonderful. I adore space simulation games, and not only with ships, that is, everything that has to do with space catches me without hesitation. I remember Gradius, galaga, and others more in the time of the arcade, nintendo and more. I remember Dead Space, with its lights, and its atmosphere from another planet! Then Elite dangerous, NO man's Sky, Star Wars Squadrons ... And now Everspace 2. Simulation? not so much, arcade? 100%, looter? 100% music? 100%, FX? 100% Controls? 100% VR? 0% , that's why i'll give a 5 star game, only 4. Because i know that this game will be perfect if someday, these magnificent devs add it to the core game. I need VR, and YOU, need to experience this game in VR!

Something you should know before buy
The game is like a arcade spaceshooter with rpg elements. Very good is the controlling of your ship with mouse, there is no joystick needed. The storytelling reminds me of Lucas Arts "Outlaws" The gameplay reminds me of "privateer 2: The darkening" The game is more or less linear where you can go a little right and left with sidemissions to get better equipment, so it is more easier to get not killed all the time. Now i played over 5h and now i can buy ships, thats also a good point that you can get more and more opportunities over time so the game will not be boring. I never played Everspace before, i thought the game will offer more opportumities like base building, get ships after defeating them in battle etc. You can get equipment from defeated ships but the outlaw ships are almost the same. All in all the game is very good for what it is but as i wrote before, i thought there will be more opportunities. Again, i played 5h, maybe there will be something i thought in a later playing phase then i will rewrite my recession.

shooter shooter
Grind worthy... lots of content grind on... ship updates are marginal. need some super weapons for fun smash and smash. Only certain things are destructible. if everything was that would be fun.
