Fun game, poor story
It's a fun arcade space shooter like Freelancer was. Unfortunately, the story is quite boring and poorly written. So overall 4 stars.

Did you like the orginal Everspace? Then you'll enjoy this just as much, if not more! Worth the money.

Fun Arcade Space Game
Never played the first, so this is a review on the game's own merit. Very fun casual space combat game with a tight set of systems and satisfying gameplay loop. Story is not blowing me away, but this doesn't feel like a game that's trying to dazzle with narrative brilliance. It found its lane and rocks that well. Would recommend.

Fun Space Shooter
I originally played the demo a little over a year ago but avoided buying the full game due to mixed reviews on steam and the high price tag. I bought it on sale not long ago and am enjoying it. This is not a 4X game, be aware that it is a space combat game with 'arcadey' gameplay like it's predecessor. Unlike it's predecessor, Everspace 2 moves away from the roguelite gameplay in favour of a more looter-shooter-RPG approach. Personally I am finding the game very enjoyable, though I know this change was one of the things people often complain about. I think to enjoy the game fully you need to build for the threats it throws at you. The combat is fun, though you mostly end up fighting many smaller, fast enemies, which like to do the thing where they all orbit you point-blank at high speeds like a swarm of bees. Combine this with teleporting drones, and enemies tendency to summon adds that add large amounts of armor, you can see how things can quickly get tedious with the wrong build. TLDR: always have a weapon with good tracking or AOE. The Flak cannon is my go-to for dealing with drone swarms. My main two complaints about the game: A) You can only upgrade gear once, but while getting the right pieces to drop you can easily gain a few levels. This makes you outlevel gear too fast and leads to too much grinding if you want set bonuses. B) The game seems poorly optimized on MAC. The recommended specs are an M2 Max, and I have the M4 Max, yet I get odd frame stutter constantly. Usually flight is butter smooth, but then introduce weird stutter when anything happens, combat, large maps, nebulas, or just at random... Turning down settings had some effect but could never get rid of it entirely.. One key annoyance is a massive frame rate drop and "chunkyness" whenever menus come up, such as docking at a station to trade and repair. The game will also hang when loading a new area sometimes. It's not unplayable but is very uncomfortable. I have hit the character limit.
