Installed the Linux version through Brave and it works really well, some weirdness around the resolution which I had to remedy by scaling the internal renderer, wound up having the game on mostly high settings except shadows and locked to 45hz using about 12 watts. The actual game is really fun too, I came back to try this after having a good time with the sequel on early access. Changed the controls to be the same as the sequel and have been getting whooped!

Everspace is a pretty standard space shooter. The hook that makes it different from others that I've played is that after dying the credits that you accumulated during the last play session can be used to purchase "perks" for your character as a pilot or one of the ships that you've unlocked. I would rate it four or five stars if they had managed to get some basic physics right.

Doesn't do a good job on explaining anything, can't aim at enemies, you die to easy and your resources are pointless since you always loss them and don't have have you need. even at 95% off it is a waste of money

You've been aching for a modern Dogfight (Freelancer)/(slightly) Elite/FTL mixup? Well, this is basically it. You are basically cloned each run and start from the beginning as in FTL, jumping around from one environment to another. Sometimes you are attached, sometimes mining stuff but basically always collecting and upgrading and mainly watching for your fuel for jumping running out. Mostly you will be killed before it does. That's where the dogfights come in. No, you can not balance your energy between systems manually or anything, but other than that it's as good as it gets. Main weapons, secondary (missles, bombs and other surprises) devices (boost, temp. invulnerability and other nice gadgets) and consumables (energy boost, hacking enemy drones..) are available and offer lots of possibilities. So far only one of 3 ships is available. So why should you do consecutive runs if you lose everything? The latter is not fully true, you keep 'perks' which you are able to buy after the run. Which also enables keeping more money for example, being able to get more perks etc etc. You get the idea, with each run your chances of survival rise. Yes, the beginning is hard, but after you get the hang of it you'll progess a lot better. It took me one evening of gaming to get a whole bunch of perks changing or improving my experience. It looks and runs gorgeous. The videos and screenshots do not lie. There is a action freeze mode for taking screenshots which I can't stop using ;). For this being an in dev title the polish is extremely high. One star kept back for the promise of the finished game features, which I fully expect will be delivered. If you accept that this game is a damn fun and good looking single-player space combat roguelike you'll have a lot of fun.

This is such a fun and addictive game, but it's too complex to play with mouse and keyboard so I use my gamepad. Yet for some reason you can't map the flight controls to the thumbsticks as you want them and it's ruined the game. Sadly I'm uninstalling it...
