Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
Entertaining enough for quick breaks.
On Linux (Mint 22.1), running the native Linux files provided by GOG.com has several glitches, including visually, rendering it unplayable.
Using the Windows files, installed and played through Lutris, everything is working fine so far.
Here's the TLDR version of my review: I'm enjoying this game, both for its roguelike qualities and its combats. Few games out there can give you both a good spacecraft piloting experience AND an interestingly challenging AI to fight. Everspace does it. Now, if you don't enjoy the "grinding to get to know the game bit by bit while unlocking new options slash getting better" aspect of roguelike games, maybe there other titles for you in the space sims genre.
I personally don't agree with someone who says this game is too hard. It is hard, yes, but I don't feel like the AI is cheating. Plus I feel like I will soon be able to level up nice perks that will give me the survivability I need to dominate. Rather, I think the AI was well designed and is good at piloting while shooting, as space pilots have to be. Took me a bit of time before I figured patterns and learned more about who to shoot first and how, but once I did I started having way better games which allowed me to explore the systems more carefully. And once I started taking my time a bit more, the universe started to be more interesting (sometimes even in bad ways which killed me !!!). This game doesn't feel like an Alpha or Beta and I can't wait for more "life" to be injected in it through more quests and events ! Kudos to the developpers so far !!
I even start to think that this game might be good enough to join my "top space sims of all time" ranking (so far only Wing Commander 1 & 2, Freelancer and a couple of Star Wars X-Wing games were able to do so) ... I'm gonna stop this here and go right back in.
Good game, mayby should normal cost 20% less and then more people could try it.
I bought at sale, just 5 euros.
Maaan, that was a good day! Yeah, i played all day!
The space movement is awsome, gameplay not too fast and not too slow, You do what You want to do, You arent so much afraid of dead so You just get full experience from game and saying after dead "i will be better next time!"!
Good game, good graphic, mayby they could little optimize explosions but it is fine.
Game just dont get serious, so soundtrack is also good but i prefer dark and silence in space, so without music You can feel the space! [ofc, You should not hear explosions etc but You know, this is just game].
And the best part - You can play 5 min in that game and die, no matter, You WONT lost that 5 min because that give money in progress. So great game for people who have somethines 2 hours and sometimes 20 minutes to play!
No story, no rogue-like, just GRAPHIKZ(tm) inside. And no entering training, you just thrown into the fire and this is all the fun (for developers, i suppose). Controls are pain, it doesn't work either on controller or keyboard/mouse. Enemies can drift and quickly change direction to avoid fire, but you got fingers cracked and twisted to do so. You must die to use collected credits, you lost all you produce/make during run. All this without any point and fun. It's just annoying.
I've played FTL, it's hard, but really immersive. And it definitely doesn't need cut down 3D version.
I was itching to play a modern version of Tie Fighter and got this. Very satisfied. The controls and combat are great. The "rogue" element is not as annoying as expected... You do get a sense of progression through the upgrade system but the main complain I have is it does end up feeling repetitive after a while. I also got the Encounters expansion which adds a bit of story to the experience but it's rather paper thin.
Still, I've sent a good 14 hours enjoying myself in this beautiful space sim. I recommend playing it and I'm holding my breath for the sequel which probably will introduce a bit more much needed depth.
All this game needed was a campaign with a storyline to be perfect!!
