The game unfolds itself the more you play, It starts bare, then you get more and more stuff. Basically FPS Faster then Light
and the more you play the better you get at dodging missiles and gunfire in 3d space.
my only issue so far is that the controls can be rather hard to work with and i find it hard to aim on targets while moving around, but that might just take time to get used to rather than an actual issue, otherwise i enjoy this quite a lot
The game plays really well, is gorgeous to look at, and has a nice difficulty balance. All the ships have unique playstyles, but you can tinker with them a bit to make them more up to your own personal wants.
The perks system is really fun, and while it seems hard to get all the upgrades for all the ships, I honestly don't mind it. It doesn't feel like a grind to me, it feels like you're getting the bonus perks as a bonus to doing well on your run.
After the many good reviews I saw on this game. I had no doubt in mind that it could be a great game to play and have a good time with. Alas, Everspace, even quite beautiful is just too repetitive and not in a good way.
First, let me say, the game looks great, some background are just beautiful and it has no technical issues. I played more than 5 hours and it plays smooth and not a single tech issue. The first fights are good and do gets better as you learn it and make your ship better. But after 3 hours, you do feel that you are just in a bad repetitive loop. Always the same ennemies, 2 spaceships, a drone, turrets and only a new interesting one added after about 5 hours of play.
This is such a missed opportunity. With a little more gameplay diversity: little missions in each area, better objectives, more diversity with ennemies. The game could have been really good.
I bought the game when it was on sales for $3, but even then I think there are better games on gog for that price. I think that I do understand now, why Everspace 2, left behind the game mechanic of the first one for a new one.
