Mediocre

What's good? * Nice graphics which are finetuned enough to even work on Intel HD. * The shield and hull system is fun * the fights in general are satisfying even though it can be annoying that enemies often are too fast + too many enemies too sudden what's okay? * The upgrade system * The story Not so good: * When you started a run, you can't just cancel but have to kill yourself instead. That's bullshit * The world, as nice as it looks, just doesn't offer enough variety but becomes boring really soon * Only three space ships to control * They give you a shitload of texts about the universe (especially the companies). This is just boring and not atmospheric at all. So what stays is a solid efford which could be really great with more variety, refinement and a more interesting world.

Money very well spent

This game is what a 3D space shooter should be and more. Gameplay is very fluent and it's suprisingly complex, yet easy to get into. Combat is very fast, often quite difficult, but that's how roguelikes tend to be. You have classical primary fire and secondary fire, though you can have multiple weapons of each type installed (depends on how you upgraded your ship). Some weapons require ammo, others deplete your ship's energy which regenerates gradually. This is NOT just a shooter, though - it contains roguelike and RPG elements. Your adventure is built around traversing space sectors - if you played FTL, it's very much alike in this regard. Each sector consists of several jump points and a jumpgate allowing you travel to the next sector can be found at the end of your current one. You never know what awaits you at a given jump point (but you can get scanners that might give you an idea) - there might be a trader, a mining facility or an outlaw outpost. Sometimes you can leave the beacon right away, at other times there is some communication array blocking your further travel that you need to hack first. You can find a lot of different resources (used for trading, crafting and repairs) and equippable items. Death means you need to start all over from sector 1, but not all is lost - all credits acquired can be spent before starting a new run on persistent perks that you don't lose on death - such as new weapon slots, increased speed and the like - there's quite a lot of them. The game's graphics are very nice, but you can probably tell it by looking at the screenshots. It might be in development, but that's actually the best part to me - this could easily be a complete game at the moment, but it's not - much is to be added (two more ships for example), fixed and rebalanced. That said, I haven't experienced any significant bugs yet. All in all, this game is definitely worth its price!

Epic space shooter

This game is all about the action and exploration. You are given a goal to get to the coordinates through number of sector consisting of multiple maps. Each time you die you have to start from the beginning, but all your money you earned through out the run you can spend on upgrading one of your 3 ships, so that next time you try you are a bit more powerful. Every zone is generated a new, so you never find the same zone twice, simillar, but always different. As you progress you encounter more strange things the space is hiding and of course you uncover the main story of the game. But all of it would not work if the gameplay would not be good and thank god the fast paced shooting and flying in this game is very enjoyable, thanks to this you do not care that you have to start again and again, because everyime you learn to pilot your ship a little bit better and in the end you will become an ace destroying enemies left and right. Now I am talking about the mouse and keyboard controls, they are very well done. Didnt play on gamepad so cant judge there. There are three ships you can unlock and play with. Each one pilots differently. In short there is a fragile, but very fast and agile ship, starting ship which is in the middle and heavy slow ship with turret and depending on armor instead of a shield and other tools you can find, craft, upgrade....... All of this is supported by the stunning visuals, the space really is a frightining but a beautifull place. This game is very addictive and very fun, sometimes frustrating, if you got your vital parts of the ship damaged and desperetaly looking for parts, but thats how it should be. Game is challenging but fair. Highly recommend It.

Shockingly bad

Boy the design of this game is all over the place. None of the systems play off or benefit each other save for Loss Progression, and even that was built in a way to make the game worse (in story mode, it's basically a forced reset for 5+runs). Mechanically the game manages to be inferior to older games, and can't decide if it wants to be an annoying collection/mining game, with a nonsensicallly small gather range, no autopickup on anything like money and crafting materials which there is never a reason not to grab; there's no limited storage space or anything like that. Weapon system that is tied to engines, but no proper micromanagement system, instead its a lazily done system which is annoyingly punishing. Speaking of weapons, hope you find an alternate loadout and better weapons quick; the starting gear is unrelentingly terrible. I don't mean it's bad, or weaker to be challenging, its just terrible. All the upgrades are boring numbergrades save for 'extra X slots' for gear, and there's a select few that are immediately superior to want to get over anything else. Nothing in the game *really* changes anything up. Other ships are the closest you can get. Hell, it doesn't even have a map and instead has the claustrophobic indicator spam all over around the screen. This could have been good and I'm hoping 2 is better which is the whole reason I checked out this one. Combat when you finally get somewhat ok stuff / perks is fairly decent. Music's passable, looks great. But so many problems, can't say it's actually good.

Pointless

Graphically: Superb 5 out of 5 Game play: TOO manic 0 out of 5 It's odd that all the demo's we saw gave us the impression that would be easy to target and shoot ships and easy to match their speed, how wrong we were!!!. Now we know that all the game play we saw beforehand had been dumbed down by at least 90% to draw us in. In the "Real World" at first you enter a gorgeous beautiful Solar System and do a bit of training although you can't keep up with the drones because they move too fast, but you persevere. Then you flit to the next System and you're attacked for no reason and swarmed and you don't get a chance to explore and find anything to help you upgrade and you're DEAD, soon after you're DEAD again and again .......... I understand Rogue games are expected to be manic but a little common sense by the developers would help and make the game progressively manic.
