European Air War

This was the most comprehensive World War 2 air combat game of the 1990s. And as others have said, you really can't beat this simulation for atmosphere and immersion. It also strikes a perfect balance between simulation and gameplay. The only thing that could be improved upon is the is the graphics engine, but it's still good enough. A great simulation!

Great reboot of a classic mid range WW2 flight Sim from the late 90s. The graphics are dated but the GAME PLAY, especially the campaign holds, up very well. This release makes getting in the air very easy compared with searching for patches on the internet. My only critique is that the text contrast in the single mission selection screen makes reading very difficult. This seems to be the only screen that has this problem however.

I am giving this game 5 stars because when it came it out it got high reviews, they proved that you can make a great game without reinventing the wheel. The only issues I had were the rudder control was way too slushy. Hit the left or right rudder button and it goes way to far left or right. The other issue is that if you go to the map screen the game completely crashes. Fortunately you don't need the map on this game. This game strikes the balance between being merely archadish or being so overly real that only Sim hounds will enjoy it. Too bad Microprose went outta business. The graphics are really dated!

Still have the original disk, handbook, etc. Tried a few times installing it but couldn't really get it to work, so when seeing it show up, I immediately bought it. The immersion factor was impressive and to this day I remember flying Hurricanes in the campaign with wingmen. On a scramble one of them was shot down and to this day, I have not yet felt as impacted by any game AI character as I did by that one virtual death... and that without even seeing an avatar etc. for that simple "character". Also seeing the formations flying around were impressive. I would say yes the graphics have become dated, but it's one of the games where the immersion factor can overpower the graphics.

Having a really great time playing this with my flight stick. I had to delete the dinput.dll file in the directory to get my stick to function correctly and now it works perfectly. Highly recommend if you want to mess around in a ww2 plane. Reading the manual is highly recommended to get a grip with some of the systems.
