Short relaxing experience

I've spent a few relaxing hours with this game. Most of the puzzles are quite simple, taking more patience than skill to solve them. The art could be amazing if taking advantage of higher resolution screens. So if you want something relaxing and not much challenging though somehow engaging, I do recommend it.

Glitches and mislabelling

To begin with, the story, gameplay and graphics are good. Even though another reviewer commented about the game being stretch in widescreen, I didn't see a problem in that regard. There are 2 problems that I had. Firstly was a regular glitch in almost every "Hidden Object" puzzle. At least once per puzzle, it wouldn't let me click an item. No matter how much I tried, it wouldn't let me... until I click the "Hint" button and it shows me the item that I was trying to click. The second problem was mislabelling some items in the "Hidden Object" puzzles. For example I was asked to find a "Bicycle Seat" only for the actually object to be a "Horse Saddle". Outside of these 2 problems, it's a fun game. I would have given it a 4/5 stars, but the glitches knock it down to 3/5 stars.

A pleasure to play

I've never been a fan of point'n'click games, I'm more of a role playing immersive action guy but I gave this a go and was pleasantly surprised. I would describe it as a thinkers game, you play a detective and certainly have to investigate everything in each scene then do a lot of mental association to see what fits where and why. Be prepared for a lot of lateral thinking! After playing it I immediately bought the other two episodes, they do follow the same theme and take the original story to its conclusion. The puzzles are simple but clever and the graphics, although not super hi-res are masterpeices of disguise. How they manage to hide so many objects in plain sight take great skill and it takes a sharp eye to find them all. If I have to be negative about anything it is the lack of tension in the build-up to the finale but I suppose with any game of a point and click nature it can only go as fast as the person driving it. Overall, well worth the cost, it should give lots of enjoyment to anyone playing it and once hooked you just have to play it to the end.

Mystery in a small town

I was never a huge fan of adventure games as their replay value was never praticularly high in my book. But a friend of mine bought Enigmatis and invited me for an evening playthrough so I decided to give it a shot. Let me start with the fact that the visuals within the game are really nice; dunno if that's a standard for the genre, but I certainly liked the art style and the overall look of locations. The story has its strong points; the beginning is great as you start out as a detective with amnesia who was investigating a girl disappearance in Maple Creek, a small town in Vermont, USA. To jug your memory you travel through the empty town, which seclusion brings an eerie feeling, creating a great atmosphere for the story. Sadly, about halfway through (when you uncover the most crucial details) it kinda goes downhill on account that suspense is mostly gone; the mystery is basically solved and you just proceed to complete the game. And completing it isn't particularly hard; my friend and I managed in just one evening, roughly 4-5 hours. The challenge is mostly in finding the objects (as the genre name implies); you still need to know where to use them, but whenever you click on an obstacle, the game tells you quite clearly what it is that you need to proceed... seriously about 90% of time whenever we picked an item, we already knew exactly where to use it. It doesn't help that some progression feels random as spots where you search from the next object activate only at certain points in the story; there's no way for you to know when unless you check the map which tells you where there is something for you to do at the point of the game you're at. The music blends rather well with the story to the point I often didn't even notice it; given the theme of the game, I'd say that's a plus, especially if you want to play it in the evening which is what I would recommand, due to the atmosphere the game tries to create. Overall: if you like HOG, it's a decent choice.

Better than Nightmares of the Deep

I enjoy the type of game find it/search it games where you have a list of objects to find, on a screen of a mixed up mess. I tried the Nightmares of the Deep series, which I believe is also by this company/maker of this game. Those games while fun- I felt it was not enough of those item find mini games, it was plagued with puzzles and back tracking. This game has very similar mechanics, but WAY more actual content of hidden objects. The story is not the greatest and honestly I could care less if there was a story, but the hidden objects of this game had me beating this game within one sitting.
