The game was first prototyped as an award-winning and much-loved student project. The original team has reformed and expanded as Fireplace Games to increase the scope, sweep and grandeur of En Garde!
This game is colorful, dynamic, truly makes you live to adventures you used to see on TV like Zorro and such.
It's short enough that it doesn't overstay its welcome.
I liked the dynamism of fights but wish there were less ennemies at the same time in arenas, even if you need to make them stronger. Fighting 1v2-3 is fun and interesting. handling 6-8 goons a bit less.
For that Zaida boss fight was really good.
It's a good simple game to enjoy for just 3/4hours. The formula it's basic but it enjoyable, the controls feel good and the mechanic is a little bit repetitive but since it's short it does not become annoying.
The combat system is easy to learn and later on becomes challenging but never too hard. The humor might not be for everyone, but I found it entertaining. There isn’t really a full story, but there is a clear goal that is consistently followed. With about 3 hours of playtime the game is quite short, but it’s fun and something you could replay. I can recommend it if it costs around 5 €. For 10 € it’s worth it if you really love this type of game.
